Slim. If he sees out the whole season due to a concussion then that would be end of career. I doubt they have a WDC chance this year, so they would want ALO back in the car for most points.
As a driver maybe - but he has already started to consider other options as long ago as 12 - 18 months before this all happened so I doubt he would be sat around doing nothing.

I wish him well ...but it does seem very odd.

I can't help thinking of McLaren's love-ins with Mansell + Montoya. Both got off to a stuttering start and ended early...

If Alonso bins off McLaren I can see this being the worst PR disaster in F1!! Worse than crashgate.

Have McLaren built a car that Alonso head will not fit in?

Joking aside, hope to see him back asap.

Pressure is on Button now - could be embarassing if Magnussen is significantly more effective in the new car.....

Of course if K.Mag beats Button in the first race and then Button beats Alonso in the second.....

I don't think their issues are down to how drivable the car is.

A couple of years ago I seem to remember Kobayashi having a concussion at a race weekend. Then trying to drive in practice at the next race and deciding he couldn't.

These things can take time, and you can't compare one "knock to the head" with every other. Alonso could still be reporting symptoms to the doctors. Being perfectly fine to leave hospital and get on with things, doesn't mean he's all heal up. It can just mean there's nothing for the Doctors to do but wait for things to improve.

Amidst the murky conspiracy theories, as so often he does, I think Joe gets it right.

That would be up there with the Hill, Villeneuve & Frentzen conundrum.

Hill>Villeneuve>Frentzen>Hill

I think that they are now being ultra-careful regarding drivers who have had head/brain trauma - a case in point being Dario Franchitti who has ended his racing career on medical advice. I suspect that we may start seeing more cases of drivers being 'rested' for longer periods following impacts

According to this Spanish paper he woke up thinking it was 1994 and it took a full week to regain his memory:

Funnily enough the 1994 McLaren was a dog as well (ask Martin Brundle).

Alonso's press conference was interesting. Pretty much contradicted most of what Ron and McL have said.

Public disagreement between him and Ron already, and he hasn't even raced for them yet frown
