Alonso airlifted to hospital

Public disagreement between him and Ron already, and he hasn't even raced for them yet
I don't like Alonso but Ron is a grade A knob. I find it difficult to believe a word either of them say as they both play so much politics.... but ultimately Fernando was driving the car at the time. What reason does he have to claim it was a steering failure if it wasn't?All seems very odd to be having a public disagreement this early on. Alonso is smart enough to know he has directly contradicted what the team has said...... almost like he wants to terminate the relationship ASAP. But where could he go? No vacancies that I can see?

I see it as him giving his version. I'm sure he told the team first. He hasn't got a lot of options so unlikely he wants to burn his bridges right now...
I agree with this. It looks like he recognised that the whole thing had been massively mismanaged by both McLaren and his management and he just wanted to get the truth, or at least as much truth as he could provide, out there. Been thinking a bit more about this. The team must have heard Fernando's explanation for the crash - for Alonso not to mention it or for the team not to ask would be staggering and would put other drivers from all teams, marshals and spectators in serious danger.
So why didn't the team mention it - for it to come out now, from the driver, is very odd and undermines the team's integrity. Had they asked Fernando to keep quiet? - knowing what Fernando is like why would they adopt such a high risk strategy? Puzzling.

I seem to remember reading something that said McLaren had put an extra sensor on the car in response to Alonso reporting heavy steering right before the crash. This was some days ago, before Alonso had said anything to the press. So why didn't the team mention it - for it to come out now, from the driver, is very odd and undermines the team's integrity. To be fair to him, McLaren caused the media storm by a series of half truths and downright nonsense after the crash. Everyone (including most people on here) saw straight through it and thought something was a bit wonky.
Alonso appears to be telling it straight, which seems to be at odds with how McLaren like to deal with things...

I really can't get my head around what has happened to Mclaren. A bizarre accident in testing which leads to inconsistent story's to the development of a car that Jenson has said today that will probably come last again. To top it off the marketing department have decided to produce a Matalan design and quality team outfit. Dark days ahead at the moment.

Gotta laugh at his comment towards the end basically saying it was unfortunate he had to watch the Australian race on TV because it was so boring It would appear that Alonso hasn't changed.
There are a number of reasons why any driver might want to suggest that a car crash was mechanical failure. Of course, none of us know what actually happened and to believe Dennis over Alonso is as silly as taking Alonso over Dennis and his management.
There are any number of reasons why a driver might deliberately want to embarrass his team.
What comes over, though, is that Alonso is not going to stay at McL for long.
It will be interesting to see the comparative times between him and Button.

I get the same feeling, but where is he going to go? Ferrari will not want him back, Mercedes appear to be very close to a deal with Lewis and have Nico signed for at least another year... plus I can't see them wanting to hire someone who might destabilize the team. It will be interesting to see the comparative times between him and Button.
Williams? Maybe but no guarantee of a winning car; they have the best engine at the moment but probably not the budget to compete development wise with Merc or Ferrari. Redbull doesn't look like an attractive option and why would they want him when they have DR anyway.
I think Button will be a lot closer than many people expect and he also has the advantage of being very popular within the team. Alonso is great but last couple of years he has been teamed up with guys that performed woefully... especially last year. Jenson can compete with him for sure.

I see this as Alonso setting out his intentions for this year, he wants the team working for him so to speak opposed to him going along with what the team says. Should be interesting as the year goes on!
Rather odd.
In this link http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/32085427 , Alonso says that he remembers nothing from 1 minute after the car came to rest until he woke up in the hospital.
In yesterday's press conference he said he only lost his memory from 4pm - 6pm the same day.
