Why the IV? He looks pretty rough as well, to be fair.

"...Our data also confirms that Fernando’s car struck the inside concrete wall, first with its front-right wheel and then with its rear-right. It was a significant lateral impact"

sounds like a 'whip' type of collision with the wall ...remember how innocuous Earnhardt's crash looked, but resulted in a basilar skull fracture

Given the performance of the McLaren Honda thus far, have we actually ruled out attempted suicide?

Strange incident.

I have been following F1 for more than 30 years, and I have never before heard of an incident serious enough to put a driver in hospital for several days being attributed to a gust of wind.

Get well soon, Fernando.

frown I am missing the Ronspeak Generator.

I wanted to see what it would make of 'a gust of wind'.

An unanticipated, high energy, horizontal laminar flow with nitrogen-rich constituents that caused previously unpredicted vehicle dynamic issues?

laugh

I thought the Ronspeak Generator was software driven. Now I am not so sure.

What a strange incident, Vettel saying he was going slowly and the accident looked weird, photographers saying his head was lolling to line side before impact .. The weird behaviour of McLaren and the blatant lies of his manager.

One thing I do know is that the wind excuse is pure BS. I was 10km away and never noticed any gusting wind at all yesterday. The circuit is buried in the hill and is largely sheltered anyway. Funny how Vettel and others who were not going "strangely slowly" did not veer off the circuit or report any difficulties whatsoever.

So, did he have a stroke, or faint due to a harsh diet ? Was it a car failure that McLaren want to hide from Honda, or more likely a Honda failure that McLaren want to hide from everyone ? For all the lies and strange behaviour it is increasingly hard to believe it was a simple driver error.

I have been thinking about this today, the gust of wind excuse has a whiff of bks about it, if it was at high speed right on the edge then it might push the car off balance and into an accident but not if as Vettel says he was going slowly.

If you substitute vertical for horizontal and methane for nitrogen, isn't that why Lewis had the screen treatment, perhaps Fernando had similar.....

Well I was at the circuit on Sunday and can confirm it was windy as hell, me and SWMBO who was freezing because of it! But I agree it sounds like BS about it being the cause.

That is an "I am going to have to sit out the first few GPs 'til they fix the car" look!

Meanwhile Magnussen is also reportedly doubtful for Melbourne due to a broken finger nail...
