Whilst Simona de Silvestro sits twiddling her thumbs (that's not a euphemism) without a drive.
Unlike all the other female drivers she actually has race pedigree in single seaters, shes proven she can compete at the same level as male drivers last year she was top ten in 9/19 races in Indy.Susie although we all thing shes great found her level and testing / development is as far as she will go. Her race results have never been brilliant, shes only scored 4 points in her DTM career.

As far as I'm aware she's never won a race since leaving karting and that win came as part of a team event. That's hilarious! LOL

I don't get the double standard here, since the start of Grand Prix racing only a select few drivers have got there on talent alone without bringing something to the team. Whether it's funding or publicity value, what's the difference?
What double standard? Pay driver by and large get an absoloute mauling on here. That this pay driver is also recieving one is entirely consistant.Dinoboy said:

More than 'a select few' I would say, though there have always been pay drivers. Many pay drivers have had talent, e.g. Niki Lauda, and eventually earn the right to be there. However, recently there seems to be more of the sort with no track record whatsoever and no ability above the ordinary who are there purely for the cash they bring. Many of them will never get a race drive, which is probably a good thing for all concerned, but it doesn't do anything for the sports reputation.
Much like Vanessa Mae skiing for Thailand, some of these appointments border on the ridiculous. Maybe a sign of the financial times and the fact that the cars are, according to the proper drivers, much easier to drive reasonably quickly than of old.
Even more of a shame when there are good drivers out there with no chance of getting even a testing role.

If formula 1 wanted to find a real talented female driver they could (or develop them, after all LH was developed from the age of 12)
Disappointing to see so few talented women in Motorsport, especially on the 30 year anniversary of a little french lady being able to genuinely be competitive with her male counterparts (and this was in an era of some of the most demanding cars to drive)

Mouton made a successful return to the Pikes Peak, winning the event overall in her Sport Quattro. Despite slippery conditions caused by a hailstorm, she broke Al Unser, Jr.'s 1982 record by about thirteen seconds. The Frenchwoman's win irritated some of her male rivals. Bobby Unser was reputedly quite vocal about his loss, to which Mouton is said to have replied: "If you have the balls you can try to race me back down as well."
It would be interesting to see some women have a go at the ring record Dinoboy said:

Nothing to do with bing a pay driver, in fact I doubt she's being paid at all, certainly not by the team anyways. She's been hired because she's a very pretty girl in a predominantly male dominated sport, that gets attention from all quarters and is worthwhile for PR reasons alone. This, however is nothing to do with racing, which is why she's getting stick. Someone like Alex Lynn, Dean Stoneman, Sam Bird, Andy Soureck etc should be getting that sort of role on a talent basis.
Thats what people are bhing about.

Given someone the Top Gear jibes recently aswell as the Sniff Petrol stuff it's almost as though Richard Porter spends all day on Pistonheads hunting for material.Crafty_ said:

I hear her father is also a senior exec with Santander, the big F1 sponsor, and a mate of Bernie's too. But I'm sure that has no bearing on things..............
