Head injuries are now being taken incredibly seriously and are under increasing scrutiny in sport. Just look at the coverage of North and Brown in the 6 nations. As well as the awful injuries Schumacher and Bianchi have sustained. Hence the preventative action seems sensible. Personally I think it would have been equal input from both medical and legal teams. Obviously there is also the point that even Alonso is seemingly going to struggle with the Mclaren in its current state. Given how secretive and complex F1 is yet another conspiracy theory is inevitable.

The most intriguing aspect of this whole episode is wondering how McLaren managed to reincarnate Comical Ali to do their press releases.
Hey, Comical Ali is still alive, not well and living in the UAE. He managed to avoid the Saddam noose-drop-shaky-dying-foot as a result of his contribution to Western morale during Gulf War unpleasantness. I agree that McLaren should recruit him.

"All is well. Alonso is simply recuperating to further develop his superpowers. The opposition will be crushed. The infidel Mercedes has a Trabant engine. Hamilton has penis like baby carrot. Ron's member is bigger than Heathrow Airport." etc.

Sorry, but since the crash it's seemed to me that an underlying medical problem caused the crash, rather than the other way round.

That's pure speculation, and hopefully wrong.

The McLaren press release reads like McLaren want him to drive and Fernando is refusing.

Is this like in Football, Alonso doesn't want to be cup tied, so is feigning injury, hoping he can get a transfer to another squad?

Quite true. The Six Nations has proven how importantly the officials treat concussion etc now.

Communication from Mclaren at any level seems so full of st that they dont really know how to just say 'He's not well' without putting it into 10 different ways.

I've always seen McLaren as a bit too cold and corporate for their own good, the whole tight lipped thing with driver lineup was ridiculous, and they cant really string it together on a press release or interview either. Too much smoke and mirrors for my liking, to the point where it seems they cant even be honest with themselves

Having performed an exhaustive series of tests and scans – some of them as recently as yesterday evening – McLaren-Honda driver Fernando Alonso’s doctors have informed him that they find him asymptomatic of any medical issue; that they see no evidence whatsoever of any injury; and that they therefore describe him as entirely healthy from neurological and cardiac perspectives alike.
Is there anything to be read into the above statement?
Would tie up with the rumour that be got a shock from the car.

Or are they just referring to a general fitness test?

Anyone seen the article on SportBild? Essentially saying that some teams may not allow the drivers to run as it's not been proved that Alonso didn't get a shock which caused him to lose conciseness. Link to the translated article:

Blimey. If Alonso was incapacitated by an electric shock then that could have absolutely massive implications for F1.

I don't think there is anything more to this than he's bumped his head and it's not a good idea to risk doing it again...however, I do believe that had he been in a Championship winning car from the off he'd have been making a lot more noise about driving in Oz.

Maybe Ron is getting his revenge for costing him $100m, he has a tazer fitted to the McLaren seat.

This.

Two bangs on the noggin while trying to drive the wheels off what is potentially a dog of a car seems unwise.

The risk is greater than the reward.

In this situation - do the driver points just not get awarded? I'm guessing KMag can't score them on Alonso's behalf..

Any drivers points go to that driver so if Magnussen scores points they will be his and he will feature in the championship list this year (I think he will even if he doesn't score any points, actually). The ones McLaren are more interested in are the constructors points and they will get those regardless of the driver, if they are in a points scoring position, of course.

Alonso certainly wouldn't get them as the Driver's Championship is for points accrued by the driver. I would expect them to count towards the Constructor's Championship though.

Edit: As andyps said, in fact. His reply came in whilst I was typing mine.
