Alonso not racing in Australian GP
Discussion
There is something strange about this story.
After all, it was a relatively minor accident (compared to say Kubica in Canada 2007).
However they kept him in the hospital for 3 days and as a consequence Fernando will not be starting in the first GP of 2015.
Alhtough the doctors are saying he sustained no injury wathsoever, they still advise him not to take part in the Australian GP.
If (and mean if) he's had a "fit" (= epileptic insult)causing him to crash then it's game over for him. No way he'll get through the medical tests for a FIA F1 Superlicence with a history of recent seizures.
And if this is just a precautionary measure for a concussion?? In that case the test (third) drivers from the various teams are going to be covering some serious racing miles this year.
Just my 5p

All I would say is that no 2 accidents are the same. After all, it was a relatively minor accident (compared to say Kubica in Canada 2007).

A relatively innocuous looking accident can be fatal due to many different things and yet major big smashes leave little more than cuts and bruises.
Not just about how much carbon flies in so many different directions!

There is nothing strange about this story. If he was still with Ferrari and had had this same crash with the same outcome then there would be none of this speculation or conspiracy theories.Vettel didn't see the accident, only the aftermath. He pulled completely off the track at T1 to let Alonso through (there is a video of this on youtube) and couldn't have observed the accident start, so his opinion of the cause is compromised.
Alsonso had a bump on the head that caused concussion and possibly amnesia. Given the recent head injuries to Schumacher and Bianchi, as well as the recently publicised lawsuits for brain injuries from concussions in the NFL and NHL, it is understandable that there is some extra caution in allowing him back in the cockpit. Even professional experts in this field admit they don't fully understand the nature and recovery of such head injuries, but apparently internet experts do.

Article in The Times this morning saying he thought he was 13 and s karting star after the accident.
Temporary amnesia is a relatively common side effect of head injury.Apparently he said he was hoping to make it to F1! Surprised Ron didn't take that opportunity to renegotiate his contract.

When I had concussion they asked me who the Prime Minister was- I knew it, it was on the tip of my tongue. Apparently for about 2hours I said I'd have the answer soon and kept on apologising for not knowing.
I spent the 2nd half of a game of football with concussion (Uni back in the 80s). I didn't touch the ball once and just kept wandering around the pitch aimlessly according to my friends at the time. Dick Seaman said:

I know... I read the article!
I suspect that;
1) There is nothing particularly unusual about this and they're playing it safe after the several bad knocks over the last few years.
2) McLaren are being their normal, idiotic spazmo selves about this and really not helping stuff with their lack of clear, unambiguous information.

Alonso 'may never drive again' according to the Mirror
, hopefully that is just media frenzy. If he has no memory of what happened, and therefore no way of knowing how he could avoid the same happening again, he may be disinclined to jump back in. Can't say I blame him.
(Yes, I know Schumacher's incident wasn't an F1 crash.)
Is it me, or do Mclaren come across as a bunch of incompetent idiots with whatever they do?...
With the debacle of pre-season contract negotiations, then this a month later.
With the history of the company, I've always been a fan, but over the past few years I've become disillusioned with some very strange things they've done, to a stage were I actually enjoy any sort of misfortune they have.
They do come across as the most incompetent of the bigger f1 teams, so I suppose it shouldn't be a surprise.
