And Nico seems to be running in Ferrari pace, which will make life very interesting indeed.

I am also saddened (but not shocked) to see Alonso going faster than Button.

With a bit of rain and the tyre degradation, this is going to be one very interesting race...
yes all in all, promises to be entertaining.

Just watching the team principals press conference.. interesting..

Renault suggest they may buy STR and turn it in to a works team, Horner points out that "we still need an engine" and then proceeds to backpeddle at about 100mph "We've had lots of success with Renault power in the past... some very talented people at Viry... Mercedes have set the bar very high and its up to us to catch them.." etc.

Christian old boy, I do believe you've just been played...

Nico didn't make it to this point by giving up, in my head he will fight it to the bitter end.

He's a racer, possibly the number 1 driver across all disciplines in nation... The fights far from over.

How much do people think Ferrari are actually in with a shout?

Lots of people seem to be talking them up, but is it just to try and keep people interested or are they genuine?

I can't see it personally, I think the odd circuit might have them closer than normal, but think Merc are still 1 sec a lap faster on average.
Would have to agree if people are meaning competing with Mercedes, it's the same with silliness like McLaren sorting the car by this race (let alone the end of the season).

At the top of the F1 show they said that word in the pitlane is that teams/engine makers/Bernie have agreed to increase engine allocation to 5 for this year. It still has to be ratified by the FIA but the consensus is that 5 engines is going to make everyone's life easier and presumably prevent people running out of engines and taking stupid grid penalties at the end of the year.

Interesting. I heard on FP that the engines are 750,000 Euro?! That's 1.5m for a team to find for a fifth engine...

But probably a marginal cost if you can get the points?

I don't see it.

Historically, Ferrari have run e bewilderingly fast times early on and then, when it comes to qually, let alone the race, they lose half a second. They run light. Comparing times with LH when the latter only put in 6 laps is P2 and none in P1 is disingenuous - although fun. They'll give away 6/10ths in qually on softs to the Mercs.

The rubbish about challenging the Mercs over, I reckon they stand a good chance in the race proper of a best of the rest result. I'd love to see Raikk do well. I hope he doesn't get too excited.

If the Mercs experience reliability problems then the top step is available. Best of luck to them, but that's what they will need: luck.

I agree with most of this. Even taking into account the fact they might be running light they still look like best of the rest.

I would also love Kimi to do well, I think that he would come out on top versus Seb but I have no evidence to back that up, it's just a feeling/hope.

On the beeb they just briefly showed the Lotus test driver Carmen Jordá chatting in the pit lane. My word she's an attractive woman cloud9
Your not wrong there, blimey...

In Australia sky coverage went over to lotus garage, where she was, and just before commentators mentioned who she was, there was an unmistakable "wolf whistle" faintly in the background, sounded like someone in the production units!

It was a 9 lap run, so I don't think it's indicative. As ever we don't know how much fuel they were carrying.

Can't believe some people are implying that this season will be a walk in the park for Hamilton after all of one race.
Stuff happens in F1 that no one can predict; one of the reasons I like it.

What time is the race tomorrow please?

The F1 website states 7am but that does not match the Sky TV schedule!

The race starts at 08:00 London time in the morning. Remember we move from GMT to BST overnight.

he has won the last 7 out of 8 races ...things can turn around in F1, but i can't see Nico (either of them wink ) getting inside his head this year, which lets be honest- is the only way Nico will win it

Lewis 0.184 behind Nico this morning, wasn't happy with braking.

Alonso much faster than Button.

Williams looked strong.

Incredibly impressive return so far from Alonso all things considered. Has Button started making excuses yet?
