I think the heat contributed to the abrubtness of radio messages from drivers. I wouldn't read to much into it.

Is it just me or is Kimi getting even worse in these post race interviews? I get that he doesn't like the media and has never been talkative, but he seems to be taking the piss these days. The guy is supposedly on $18 million a year, it would be nice if he give something back to his fans in these interviews.

Really good race today, my drive of the day has to go to Kimi though, shocking luck at the start and still got it back from last to 4th. And good to see Vettel celebrating properly. About time someone looked a bit more happy to be on the podium.

Highlight has got to be Button on the radio being surprised he was catching cars up hehe

I was very impressed with Verstappen. He made a couple of lovely moves and seemed to keep out of trouble.... aggressive but not suicidal. Wise head on young shoulders as MB said earlier in the weekend.

Yes, of all the 'sons' of drivers, he really seems to be the real deal, if he carries on like this, he will be a valuable asset.

I agree, his perpetual mumbling, monosyllabic answers boarder on rudeness. I am not a fan but perhaps those that fawn over him like that.

A great race and just what F1 needed at exactly the right time.

I havent got all of the analysis of course, but it looks like it was mostly Mercedes that lost the race, but it certainly appears that Ferrari have made a big step.

Lets pray this continues and we get a real battle this year!

I agree, it always looks like a massive chore to him.

Quite a race. Battles all over the show.

Lewis - pity he didn't have the tyres needed or that could have been one hell of a scrap.
Vettel - can't help but be impressed by him. Faultless drive under pressure
Nico - WTF? Do you REALLY need to be told if he gets past you and you both have one stop left that you will lose to him?!? I mean, don't put up too much of a scrap for it eh fella?!
Verstappen - now that was quite an example of how a seasoned F1 driver places his car to defend and attack. Oh, wait..... What a head on those shoulders.
Hulkenberg - can't quite decide if he had the corner or not, looked like not enough to stick the nose in that far really
Perez - WTF? It seemed to me he just drove sideways into Romain?!?
Sainz - Not bad at all, another one to watch

YES YES YES!!!....... Forza Ferrari.

Well done Vettel, well done Ferrari.

But I don't understand..... All the pistonhead experts said that multiple world champion Sebastian vettel couldn't drive an F1 car anymore.... I suppose he must have cheated which tends to be the next theory to come along lol!

I love it, pure performance to battle Mercedes. 2015 could be a great year (even though the PH experts have been declaring F1 dead since Australia also!)

The thing is I am a fan, I think he is a great driver and I have followed him for years. But even I'm getting annoyed with the attitude, it seems to have got worse the last 2 years. It really wouldn't kill him to give some feedback to the press and fans. I'm not saying he should spend endless amounts of time trying to suck up to everybody like Rosberg, but some answers beyond yes/no would show a bit more class.

He probably can't help the monotone voice and I don't know if language is a barrier confused But all the pundits seem to say he is a funny guy away from the TV cameras, so it seems odd he can't give us a glimpse every now and then.

I'm also a fan and like you I would like to see just a little more. I seem to remember he did a pretty decent interview with Lee McKenzie a couple of years ago so he can do it if he wants to.

Edit: Actually it was Seb I was thinking of. Nevermind.

So what are Horner and Marko going to whinge about now...

Ferrari beat Mercedes, so it's obviously possible
Toro Rosso ( with a pair of rookies ) beat Red Bull with the same Renault engine....

Seems that their car is probably lacking just as much as the power unit. Will be interesting to see how they respond as they seem to have taken a significant step backwards since last year, their fastest lap was almost 2.5 seconds off the pace.

Merc lost this race on Friday.

without Lewis being able to do his test programme, he did not have the right data on tyres, this was then compounded in qualifying using up all the mediums, which seemed to be the choice tyre for the race (in hindsight)

The final straw was the early pit-stop under SC, this nailed it.

with the better tyre choice, Lewis might have been able to recover from the SC pitstop.

Nico lost Merc the race, both by his playing silly buggers in Qualifying, then making a crap job of turn 1, letting Vettel though, and finally not putting up any fight on Vettel's last stop for turn 1 again.
Lewis losing time in FP won't have much bearing over tyre data as there was Nico to supplement it. Lewis wasn't happy with his handling it wasn't rectified for Sunday (as happened at Melbourne) so a car not handling quite right will compound tyre deg. Green track probably didn't help?

Hindsight is wonderful thing.

Nobody expected Ferrari to have such strong long run pace and the race was predicted to have 3 stops.

A bit of restraint on the podium might have been nice, all things considered, but there you go.
What did you mean by this?
Isn't this the guy who's in a very bad mood after every race? wink

Awesome, awesome race! It's fair to say, the sport needed this. I was not prepared to watch another Mercedes 1-2, which in all likelihood would've been Lewis and Nico (in that order). As much I liked last year's battle between the Merc pilots, surely it's better when it's mixed up a little bit!

Dr Z in the Oz GP thread said:
...whilst Ferrari and Williams are quite way off qualifying pace (about 0.8-1s), it is quite a lot closer in race pace, already. I believe on full tilt, Ferrari are at best 0.5s off Mercs on race pace. We did regularly see Kimi lighting up the screens when in clear air with fastest laps (but by then Mercs were turned down). Whilst this is not good enough to challenge for the race lead, it's good enough to give the Merc pitwall and drivers headaches during the first stint, effectively not allowing them to create a big enough gap to do what they like strategy wise. When you push them hard like that during the opening stint, who knows what might happen? Reliability glitches and driver errors might creep in. It just changes the dynamics of the race entirely, now knowing that Mercs have to look in their mirrors too, and not allowing [the Mercedes pitwall] a luxury of simply having to manage their own drivers.

...I also hope Ferrari qualify better in the next races, as we really need the other teams pushing the Mercs closer to their maximum potential (if not for the whole race, atleast for the first part of the race), to really test the Merc tactics and drivers. If it's anything like today, the Mercs will be about 80% of their performance potential and given Hamilton's confidence, running around playing fake cat and mouse between themselves. And that would be very boring indeed.
Very pleased after Ferrari has answered my prayers. biggrin If only I had some money on this!

Now, I think some pace advantage enjoyed by Ferrari could've been due to the high track temps, so it will be interesting to see how well they fare in the cooler races. And of course, a huge development race is now on too and the gap between the Merc and Ferrari could ebb and flow throughout the season. This could turn out to be a good season after all.

Not so sure about that.

Fp2 they were doing some impressive long runs...
