Looks like Renault might be buying Toro Rosso.
Or quitting altogether.

It depends on whether you count the TAG labelled Porsche engine as VAG.
Did Porsche put an engine in a F1 car? Every day is a school day.

Weren't they the ones campaigning for these engines? And now what? Are four years of domination so easily forgotten?

Back then Porsche was an independent PLC, although there were some family ties via the Piech family and some joint road car projects. VAG only recently bought Porsche, and I don't think anyone has ever suggested the TAG V6 and Footwork V12 engines were anything to do with VAG.

You might as well say that VAG has F1 experience going back to the DFV, since Audi bought the Mahle Powertrain company that used to be Cosworth.

Red bull 4 tenths faster than torro rosso in Q3. Proof it's not all Renault's fault.

Renault will come good. They will do.

Remember their wide angle V10 from 2001? They were fighting the Minardis at the start of the season and then got a victory just 2 years later with Alonso at the 2003 Hungarian GP.

Another 2 years later and they toppled the great Ferrari/Schumacher juggernaunt.

Their V8 was also down on power but clever engine mapping and great Newey aerodynamics made it an unbeatable combo.

If they get their own team - by buying out Force India or someone midfield - they'll become front runners within a few years. They have the pedigree and are too good basically.

I suspect by the end of 2015 they'll be right up there with Merc and Ferrari.
I didn't buy all the bigging up that the honda-mclaren would automatically be some kind of the awesome "because mclaren honda" and I don't buy it with renault today.

Reanults run of success followed an unbroken timeline with a relatively steady team of key personnel, as engine suppliers to williams and benneton through buying benneton but it ended last year; I feel they'd be starting from scratch if they return, and as we've seen with mchonda it takes more than having an illustrious name.
