Mercedes forced to run with less power today? Equalisation
Discussion
I think given the nature of the track its going to suit the merc anyway.
Would have been interesting to know how much they were turned down as the speed traps showed the Merc factory squad were the slowest of the merc powered teams in qualifying.
Did they have to reduce power more as they are packaged with less cooling?
Do they generate so much more downforce then the rivals that they need the extra power?

All I will say is never say never. F1 is a business. Sport is a by-product unfortunately. It is in the interests of all teams for F1 to keep commercial interest.
I'm not saying Mercedes turned the wick down but in this day n age I wouldn't just laugh it off the table.
You ARE aware what happened the last two times Merc decided to go GP racing right?I'm not saying Mercedes turned the wick down but in this day n age I wouldn't just laugh it off the table.
Merc only do racing one way. In their entire history Merc have only done racing in one way - crush the opposition.

I get that.. But I don't dismiss the power of money in the current era. 'GP Racing' is nothing like the sport it was back in the 1950's. It's run by venture capitalists who just see money, not integrity nor racing.Merc only do racing one way. In their entire history Merc have only done racing in one way - crush the opposition.
F1 is a capitalist world with capitalist decisions made.
As I say I'm not saying Mercedes did anything, but I definitely don't sweepingly dismiss these things.

Ahh, but of course ignoring the state sponsored crush every mutha fker on 4 wheels German onslaught, lets turn to those wonderful dignified amateurs in the French and Italian world of GP racing. Lets pick a race at random, like say, oh I don't know...the Tripoli GP? Oops, there goes that theory! One could almost argue it even got Dick Seaman killed and nobody gave a fk.
GP racing has ALWAYS been a ruthless capitalist world.
Nobody ever went racing for a fair competition or for the good of the sport. They went to crush, dominate, ruin and hopefully put every other fker out of business who could oppose you.
I dismiss this drivel because it assumes Mercedes are somehow "nice" about their opposition and sport. Mercedes are utter bds, they have always been utter bds and unless there is a sudden rapprochement in southern Germany leading to pretzels and bier instead of who has the biggest corporate dick, then they will continue to be utter bds to make sure those other Germanic fkers know who the boss is.
And their racing team is run by the biggest, baddest, hardest bd in town and the one man who Bernie knows absolutely, definitely, guaranteed without any fear whatsoever, will tell him to go fk himself if such a thing was ever suggested. He was after all the bloke who told Bernie to grow a fking pair and divorce the bint.

I think far too many of posters on this thread have forgotten Mercades AMG Petronas' mission statement:Merc only do racing one way. In their entire history Merc have only done racing in one way - crush the opposition.
[quite=Mercades F1]Crush your enemies. See them driven before you. Hear the lamentations of their women.

Well I'm keeping an open mind.. History dictates very little is impossible. One point that I'll try and dig from your comments, I completely disagree that F1 today is the same as it was in the 50's, 60's or dare I say 70's.. Many experts within the Sport have stated that money became a much bigger player as the 80's progressed and I strongly believe that has continued to a greater degree in subsequent decades.
And I never underestimate the power of money..

I wonder how much money it would take for the shiny-suited venture capitalists of CVC to persuade the corporate might of Mercedes Benz to throw a race? MB have invested billions into F1 over the years. The payback they are looking for from this is to build and reinforce the MB brand for engineering excellence and success in motorsports, not brown envelopes full of cash to finish behind a competitor.Another point against this theory is my doubt that CVC actually know or care enough about the sport to put their hands in their pockets to spice things up. If they wanted to do that then there are far easier, and dare I say it less 'underhand', ways to do that, like simply redistributing the money they already pay to the teams to level the playing field and increase the level of competition all the way down the grid.

They didn't read the memo this weekend?!.
You say that but it's interesting what Martin Brundle allegedly had to say today regarding the race being a bit of a 'set up' and the Mercs possibly being told to keep it close.Just sitting on the fence, F1 don't want a repeat of the Michael Schumacher years in F1 when it was a bit of a whitewash and now with manufactured racing with DRS etc, and the emphasis being made on 'putting on a show', it's in no-one's interests for a team to romp off into the sunset over consecutive seasons. Gotta keep the 'fans' guessing.
Mercedes don't need to lose, they just need to make it not look too easy.
I'm not saying this or that is definitely happening but as I've said before, I certainly wouldn't sweepingly put it past F1..

Whilst I'm not ready to buy a tin foil hat just yet I do find it interesting that Mercedes go from the middle of the speed traps to the top.
I do genuinely think that Mercedes (and the other customer teams) had some kind of power issue in Malaysia. I don't think its a conspiracy, just interesting.
