I think that the subject title tells us all we need to know about the OP.
I see PH have changed the title. Correct decision.

The BBC are retards. Given the institutional left wing PC bias, countryvile propaganda, the Clarkson affair etc, retards seems a fair description of what was once an honourable institution....

I have been caught out a few times over the years where they just blurt out the result in the first item on sport news, just before the highlights show.
Isn't this the real point? Of course there's no problem about them giving out the results in the news - it is news after all. But the fact that they're about to show the highlights means they know damn well that a lot of people haven't yet seen the race - otherwise why bother showing highlights? - in which case blurting out the result is thoughtless at best.

What riles people is not the actual stating of results but the doing so without warning.

Ed Zachary!

Seems to be a rule that you can turn away from some football result (yet to be aired)... but 'Sebastian Vettel won the race' is in your face before the the highlights show.... I agree with OP, the BBC are retards....

Oddly enough there are people who like to watch the highlights even though they're seen the race live.

I was working yesterday, avoided any internet or radio all day, watched the race when I got home. It wasn`t too hard.

Fair point, but that's not the main reason for showing highlights.

It's because the BBC are a bunch of car hating lefties what sacked Clarkson and now my sunday is ruined because I've got no top gear and im already in a bad mood because they told me who won the race which was sh*t anyway because it is obvious merc had to slow down to let fezza win because if they didn't then no one would watch f1 on telly anymore.

If you actually believe that then it goes some way to explaining your lack of ability to avoid the results before watching a re-run of the race.

It's really not that difficult to avoid results of sporting events if you plan on watching them later.

step 1) avoid the internet step 2) don't read or watch news items before you get caught up.

The news is kind of obligated to inform people of new things that have recently happened, there is a clue in the name.

The problem is courtesy.

Many sporting results are given out on the news all the time. However, in many cases, a little forewarning announcement is made to allow viewers or listeners to leave the room or change channels to avoid hearing the result. The BBC is, on the whole, pretty good about this EXCEPT when it comes to Formula 1.

The question is - why?

Although in this case I'm fairly sure the BBC news bulletin did feature a forewarning before the results were announced.

One possible explanation is to look at the Twitter feed of a certain Danny Cohen - https://twitter.com/DannyCohen - and see how much interest he has in F1 compared with football. If you can find a tweet about F1 let me know, I didn't see one. If he has no interest, F1 is unlikely to get much prominence on the BBC.

I think his comment was very tongue in cheek.

We decided to watch qually yesterday afternoon and it nearly killed us trying to switch off the radio before every news bulletin and not using the Internet all morning and so generally missing anything else newsworthy.

So this morning we just got up and watched it live. It is just so much easier, if you call yourself a fan.

And what a great reward for our very small effort.
It nearly killed you to turn off the radio for 2 minutes every hour?

Really?

Is this the worst thing happening to you in your life?

OP, I can relate to your ire, last week it was me posting a similar rant which got similar replies, both sympathetic and sarcastic.
The truth is that you really do have to walk around with a bag over your head or watch each race live like the 'real fans' if you don't want to know the result.
I did however take the time to contact Aunty and was told that because the result is in the public domain it's considered newsworthy.
I wonder if that applies to every competition on tv? Or even this website?
Personally I think that providing a link to the result is a good compromise but what do I know? I just like watching cars go round a track, I'm not a real fan.
