Yes he's made some wrong decisions, but in the end he made the right decision with Renault and got 3 titles for his troubles.

I would think both JB & FA are feeling a little miffed, the tie to Honda looks like nothing but hard work and whilst I have confidence the Woking boys will sort this car out, it may not be in time for JB's career. Perhaps he will be nabbed by Haas in 2016. . . As for Fernando, I expect he will be busy learning off by heart Michael's script from when he initially joined Ferrari. . .but then look what happened !

Depends...life at maranello may have become intolerable. If so, the lack of pressure at McLaren must be a blessing.

There's similarity here with Coulthard and Red Bull. It was he who put in the graft that Vettel ultimately benefited from.

Or he got the right tyres off michelin and was in the right car for those tyres, he's never had that situation again.

He would've been WDC in '08 if he wasn't such a c***t at Hungary and '10 if he didn't pit early at Abu Dhabi.

Wouldn't Alonso be thinking that he probably hasn't got an awful lot of time left in F1 anyway? He's surely in his twilight years now isn't he? Not to take anything away from the man but if McLaren offered him a fat wedge of money to move, I'd forgive him having one eye on his retirement pot.
I'm starting to think he may not win another championship again. He got very close with Ferrari and wasn't able to, now he's left when possibly the gap is a little closer to the leading cars. Then off to McLaren and who knows if they'll be in the mix at the front next season. He's running out of time fast to get the next championship. Great driver, probably the best, timing is everything though and he doesn't seem to be doing that so well with his team picks.

I was just thinking the same and i bet you those thoughts ran through Dc's head when he left....

DC became crash happy by 2008 and he might not have been able to wring the neck out of those Red Bulls like Vettel could. He was also quite old by the point too so who knows if he had it in him.

Regarding Alonso. If he 'developed' the 2015 Ferrari then he can develop the 2016 Mclaren too. Though from what I gather, James Allison said Kimi's feedback was better than Alonso's.

The last thing you want is two drivers giving different feedback.

Two last year or do you mean a new manufacturer?

Fernando is thinking - "I earn more than any other driver in F 1"

"It softens the pain of having to develop this car"

Mercedes & Renault both had brand new engines last year and both won. Honda have also been working on their V6 since 2013.

The question is why did McLaren treat a two time world champion so badly first time round, maybe because he isn't that likeable no one noticed, but it is unprecedented tbh, and ultimately shows why McLaren can't achieve lasting success. I can't see alonso doing a full season tbh.

Seems to be a reoccurring theme with McLaren treating drivers like crap. Something to do with Ron Dennis no doubt. Alonso I think knew he was going to be in it for the long haul at McLaren with the new engine. I keep hearing rumours the Honda engines are running about 60% capacity so if that's true and they are ironing out problems it should be good at the end of the year. Having said that, the mystical pace to Mercedes didn't materialise itself during the Malaysian gp, which leaves me wondering about Alonso and his ability to set up a car and provide decent t feedback. Not sure it's good from either McLaren or Alonso's point of view.

PHers who are old enough will remember the TV interviews with George Best and the story he used to trot out about the bed covered in cash, Miss World sat there and the “where did it all go wrong, George” comment from the concierge.

Somehow I think this will be Alonso - In a couple of years, he’ll retire with an incomprehensible amount of money and "only" 2 World titles to his name and we’ll all collectively say “only if”

Well, we all live and die by our decisions in life. Yeah, right! - Fred’s already laughing his way to Santander (Cayman Branch) as we speak, and Ronda are funding his retirement which has already started….. As has been said before “The Woking Wallet Thief” (allegedly…..)
