cooler temps, front-limited track & a punchy Nico? ...a Merc 1-2 all day long
Totally agree. Some posters also not remembering that Lewis was 2 seconds infront of Vettel after 3 laps at the weekend. I think Rosberg overtook Vettel 3 times and Kimi earlier in the race with ease. Not sure what people are baseing there opinions on. The Mercedes to me was allot quicker than the Ferrari.
Ferrari overtook Merc on track (and pulled away easily) and finished in second place - 4 seconds behind the Merc of LH.
Tortoise and the Hare . The Ferraris are not as quick as the Mercs but have enough pace to make Merc think twice.
Outright pace, for sure the Merc is quicker, but a Grand Prix is not about outright pace it is about tyre management.
Of course, NR used the outright pace to overtake and gain track position, but once ahead he could not maintain the same level of attack as he would have been out of tyres too early in the stint and been on the back foot.
Unfortunately, on both occasions where SV undercut NR, it wasn't by enough to be out of DRS range once NR emerged from the pits, so it is too easy for NR to pass SV on the staight and then give SV the dirty air to chew on for the remainder of the lap whilst NR has the advantage of clean air to break the 1.0sec DRS gap.
I felt the kept KR out too long in the 2nd stint, but that was last week.
In Spain, I can't see anything other than a Merc 1-2. Cooler, front limited and limited passing places.
Anyone know what the tyre allocation is? This will have an effect.

With cooler temps Merc will not so restricted with brakes overheating issues so will be able to run a lot harder, their DF will be less compromised by the brake cooling requirement too.
Ferrari will also have a harder time getting their tyres up to temperature as quickly too.
Merc 1-2 unless they have a problem.

It looks like the tyre allocation for Spain will favour the Mercs as for Spain, Pirelli will bring the hard and medium tyres.

There was talk of a 60hp upgrade to the Ferrari engine due. IF that's true Merc will have to turn up to 75%.
Not heard of 60hp, but I did read a 20-30hp increase. This was due to come to Spain but now won't appear until Canada. I think the delay is because they are integrating a reliability fix after finding cracks in the engines used in China (IIRC related to the block).McLaren are bringing upgrades to Spain, according to Button's interview in China. One presumes this will include a way to prevent the thing switching itself off...
Red Bull are pushing Renault hard for a big upgrade, which maybe isn't the best idea. IIRC Marko also said they have a chassis/aero package coming too that he made quite clear Newey had been working on.
McLaren may have a new livery for Spain http://adamcooperf1.com/2015/05/02/mclaren-to-debu...
It will probably be grey

So he [Dennis] seems to be saying "yes I know the current colour scheme looks awful, but the fact that it is bad is not a good reason to change it" - could this attitude point to the reason they haven't won a race for over two years. It will probably be grey

McLaren dropping livery hints on instagram ?? TAG back as a sponsor ? red & white ? who knows..
All will be revealed on Thursday apparently.
Let's hope that picture refers to a significant boost in performance, not just some retro nostalgic livery change - because without the performance any reference to the late 80s will look pretty silly. All will be revealed on Thursday apparently.
Either way I think a new era should be allowed to define itself - like the retro Lotus JPS livery, it will never look as good as we remember.
Funny how teams are allowed to change livery but drivers are not.
