Anyone know who the guy was on the podium who was going wild with Nico, and very subdued with the rest?
His race engineer maybe?
Pierre Casiraghi, son of Princess Caroline.
Ah ok, thanks!

He seemed very, very happy Nico won.

Nico's lived in Monaco pretty much his whole life, so it's entirely possible they're friends, and it's also like their local driver won their race.

Ah sorry I was thinking of the Mercedes representative.

Yes, Monaco quite small community, he will know them all...

Lewis also lives there doesn't he?

Lewis is a tax exile and the true locals don't get so close to 'ex pats' even those who have been there for 20 years or so. A very split group and hard to 'into' the club.

My understanding is that he wasn't willing to commit for the long term and Merc needed long term leadership; the Toto/Niki/Paddy/Brawn dynamic was too many brains into one leadership team.
Correct. He would only commit for 1 more year. Something about Jean wanting him to cut the grass. Apparently.

Let's face it he is a smart guy. £100M in the bank, 60 years old, endless options to be a consultant to pretty much any sport; lifetime Ferrari/Mercedes access if he ever wants to step back into the paddock to watch a race...

(I watched the race on RTL for the first time - they seem to have almost permanent access to Niki!)
That would be because he works for RTL as a pundit at the races.
Oops... Thanks for not showing me up there smile

Gigi Hadid apparently, 20yr old swimsuit model.

I never got the dislike for Nicole to be honest.
Nicole is a lot better looking (even if she's close to twice that girl's age). Nicole used to genuinely get quite into the races. Certainly looks like a downgrade to me.

One thing I noticed was how lucky the marshals were when max v hit grosjean. If max had got a bit airborne, ( think Mark Webber a few years ago) they would have been flattened...
Forgot to answer this at the time. That is why we have low noses now. The car tends not to launch and "submarines" instead. Stops Webber-Koveleinen (sp?) style crashes. Although sometimes it's been close to the driver behind getting a wheel to the face.

I doubt I'd have behaved as well as Lewis.

Nico makes it hard for people to like him.
Lewis has, indeed, been incredibly measured in his responses, really mature despite being massively let down.

I find myself warming to Nico after his incredibly honest and generous comments after the race on Sunday. Recognising that Lewis was better than him in qualy and the race and his win was down to luck. Also honesty that a win is a win. He was better than Lewis last race and Lewis recognised that and congratulated him too... Seems to me that they're fierce rivals who have respect for one another.

Exactly - '"seems". That's how they want it to seem on camera

So when you're hanging out with them away from the media glare how are they with one another?

Has anything else come out about the Verstappen/Grosjean crash, whether Grosjean did brake earlier than the laps before or not?

I've seen that Grosjean and Massa have stuck the boot in saying that he was dangerous, which is rich coming from them. I like Max, in the same way as Ricciardo last year and Hamilton when he started out. He's not in awe of anyone, and he'll have a go getting past them. Sticking with Vettel while he was lapping was a neat trick until Lotus cottoned on to what he was doing, and he's made some good overtakes in previous races. I hope he moves up to a higher team, there's a lot of potential there.

There's an article on the BBC site saying Grosjean braked 5m later than previously, presumably to defend his place. Error of judgement from Verstappen but no more than that IMO.

You'd think he would have braked earlier, not later?

I agree with the comments made that both Massa and Grosjean's first seasons were marred with a series of crashes for them both, wasn't Grosjean at fault at Spa for instance? So for the two of them to make the comments they did is a tad hypocritical IMHO.

I feel huge sympathy for Lewis Ha...actually I don't.

Fair play, that's a big improvement on the previous one!
I always though that the Hamilton/Sherzinger (sp?) relationship was a bit odd; Hamilton looks younger than he is and Sherzinger had this air of sophistication about her that made her seem older than she was; she looked her age it's just she seemed older, they almost looked like a mother and her son, they just looked odd together.
