The Official 2015 British Grand Prix thread **SPOILERS**
Discussion
Watched the race at a friend's place. Just got back.
It was a cracking GP, just like the, dare I say it? Yes I will: just like the old days, with a start, a middle phase, and end but with the bonus of rain.
Merc called the tactics well, getting LH in just at the right time for the first pit stop. The battle for the win apparently over, there was still the second step to fight for. Then the rain. Again Merc (or LH, it matters not as it is a team sport) went for tyres at a time which every one of us where I was thought it a lap too early.
Well we called that one way wrong.
LH was restrained during the post pace car phase, at least once past the pit straight, and after gaining the lead he was cruising at times I thought, we guessed to get his petrol consumption back on plan.
Driver of the race for me is difficult. LH drove well once not stationary, even the attempt at the pass on the restart was typical of any racer. But Vettel - OK he lucked in a little - brought a car with difficulties through to third. I always doubted his abilities but over the last couple of seasons I've warmed to him. I think he's proved his worth.
Really gutted for Williams. Had it stayed dry I reckon they'd have had 3rd and 4th stitched up. But, it would appear, their set up was light aero. Not good with a mild dew. A positive day none the less, with promise for the faster circuits.
If they'd have brought Massa in for tyres on the same lap as LH, I reckon there could have been a bit more excitement at the front, but Merc timed it very tightly. Easy with 20:20. I would assume that Williams would have been a bit concerned with tyre wear given their light downforce, but in the end, it was of no account.
The decisions and tactics were confusing and we'll never know why they made the calls they did.
An exciting way to spend the afternoon.

Wow....what a great race that was.
Williams played it too safe just to get some points when they could have had a podium or even won the race.
Hamilton made a perfect call on the intermediate tyres at the right time.
I have no idea how that worm Vettel got third.
Force India could have done better, but both cars in the points.
I was hoping that Alonso would crash into someone to allow Manor Marrussia to get their first point.

Nice to see and hear a crowd today, F1 needs more of that. Loved the cheers working their way around the circuit when exciting things happened.
Seeing the enthusiasm for F1 among the British crowd must be disappointing for Vettel and Rosberg to know the German GP was cancelled. Ozzie Osmond said:

So we didn't have the same driver winning over and over before then ?
In case you hadn't noticed, Mercedes/Hamilton have an all time record number of poles/wins/podiums. But why let the facts stand in the way of a good rant.Exige77 said:
Fuel saving ? I remember when cars used to regularly run out of fuel.
Yes, but at least they ran out rather than pussying about on the circuit.Exige77 said:
This is a thread for people who enjoy F1 and want to discuss it an not bleat on about "it was better before".
Well, let's face it, if you can enjoy watching this era of F1 you could probably get a new hobby watching paint dry and get a bigger kick out of that.Exige77 said:
If you don't like F1, don't watch it.
Sound advice I'm sure - but the audience is already declining very rapidly. Silverstone and a couple of other aces might sell our but most grandstands are half empty through the season and the TV audience is shrinking fast.F1 at present is dull. Very dull indeed. Get over it. I'd like to see it improved. So would many other fans.
Maybe not at its best but I still enjoy watching it.
Fed up with some PHers coming on here every fortnight moaning about it.
As I mentioned, if you don't like don't watch it, but don't keep bleating on about how it was better before.

I think most of the drivers loved the atmosphere and high turnout. It makes some of these far away races look sterile. And the race was good too. I wonder if there could be a subtle link....
McLaren appear to have come up with a cunning plan to eke out their engine component supply and avoid grid penalties. The drivers are now taking turns to crash on the first lap, thereby saving engine mileage.
They almost got it right today, by very nearly eliminating both cars. Unfortunately, Alonso's wasn't badly damaged, so he had to continue, but it will be his turn at the Hungaroring.
I thought that the Ron Dennis interview was bizarre. Ron isn't noted for his sense of humour, let's be honest, so the crack about Eddie Jordan came right out of the blue. To be fair, whatever Ron says can't make his situation any worse.

Not so out of the blue after Eddie's comments. Think he just got fed up with him (basically said the car was crap even if you had a better engine, and with the current leadership it wouldn't get better). To be honest EJ does tend to try and be different just to be different.lbc said:

I saw him lose two places at the start but win the race.
Great day flagging at stowe.
The laps when Nick was catching was when the rain covered club, Abbey/the loop and woodcote side. And he had Lewis as a marker for the grip levels. The lap Lewis came in on it had started to rain on stowe, and up hanger straight.
To me it looked the perfect time, as both of us on post wondered why rosberg hadn't followed him in, as he would lose less time stacking behind than trying to make it round another lap on slicks when the only dry but was copse.

Bottas on lap 1, Massa after intermediates, And maybe Perez on leaving the pits?I saw him lose two places at the start but win the race.
Perez. A true contender 😵? Gimme a break!
Looked like his pit crew did the hard work.
Team effort.
Nothing special in F1 terms from Lewis.

So he reclaimed one place he lost from a poor start. Mucked up the restart after the SC and overtook Massa who was on the wrong tyres.

Well, he was right on Massa in the restart. There was an opportunity going into vale, he tried. Didnt pay off. But it was his best chance as once everyone was up to speed then it would have been just like the later laps, the drs not being quite enough to power past on the straights. Vale and brooklands being the best chances for an overtake. Perez. A true contender ??? Gimme a break!

Did you dream that someone claimed lewis won by overtaking lots? I think most people have said it was a good drive and that tactics made the difference.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but having that bint sing the National Anthem was little short of toe-curlingly embarrassing. Why, in the name of all things holy, do we have to lower ourselves to the level of the bloody Americans?
