I thought Jenson had a two year deal?

F1 is like a village and every village has an idiot an EJ is that idiot. Well said Ron
I watched that and thought it was very funny and true.I was surprised Ron said it in such basic terms as I thought he would do it in Ronspeak.Saying that I also think what Eddie said about Ron was true as well.
I was watching the Ron interview too - who else would you possibly want in a struggling car that needs developing other than the best F1 driver in the world who can get the best out of shopping trolley with wobbly wheels and one of the most experienced F1 driver who happens to have great sensitivity - something that has worked for and against him.
So all these self-proclaimed experts saying Jenson was on a one year deal - where did you get your info?

Well I guess two years in that car is payback for treating him fairly badly at the start of the year....
You have to wonder what performance clauses McLaren have with Honda, this is far worse than the hand grenade that Peugeot designed in 94, and subsequently got ousted at the end of that year. At least that sorted it self out with some points and a podium. This seems a million miles away from that.

Your saying that as a fan though.
The reality is lots of travel being away from family I'm sure the glamour soon wears of and it becomes a grind.
This is why wec is so attractive, they only race 6 times a year.
Oh yes it becomes a grind, although if they paid me £6-8m a year and let me drive the car I might have put up with it for longer The reality is lots of travel being away from family I'm sure the glamour soon wears of and it becomes a grind.

If you'd been in the sport for a decade the novelty wears off, look at casey stoner (moto gp) he ended up hating the press work, the endless travelling so he jacked it all in.
He was healthy, he had money he wanted to see his daughter grow up so why risk getting injured anymore when you've been world champion.
Surely better to semi retire and race when/where you want.
Give me a rider like stoner or kiyo in bsb who don't play the game and wear there heart on there sleeve any day.
Stoner enjoyed the racing it was everything else off track he hated , he wasn't a outgoing people person so meet and greets, press work were a nigtmare for him.
Typically the drivers will do anything to race; I've often pondered when a top drivers carrying a massive problem and has no hope of points that he doesn't just give up and park it but wouldn't occur. It's just not how they think.

This years Honda might be worse than the 1994 Peugeot but the only way it will be ditched is if McLaren can find a better alternative. As strange as it sounds, I don't think that there currently is a better alternative to the Honda.ralphrj said:

McLaren don't want to play second fiddle to Mercedes so they need an engine that is not a Mercedes which leaves Renault, Honda and Ferrari (although the same thing applies to the Ferrari) They will have to stick with it until things change which they will by either McLaren / Honda getting things to work or external influences changing things ie diff engine specs.ralphrj said:

They would be playing second fiddle to Mercedes again with a Merc, and I think hell would freeze over before Ron would let the old enemy of Ferrari into the back of his cars!

Ron Dennis has just said (in an interview with Martin Brundle) that Jenson has a two year contract and "they are not even thinking about drivers at the moment".
Ron Dennis is now saying the 2 year contract does not mean Jensen will be driving an F1 car in 2016.Yes, he has a contract, but driving is not part of the contract it seems.

Whilst I think that Jenson deserves one more year with a competitive Honda engine, I can't help but think that McLaren would be just as well off with Magnussen as Alonso's #2.
However, if Aston Martin do come in and rebrand Red Bull, Force India or Williams then I can't think of a better Aston Martin brand ambassador in the paddock than Jenson Button. He has the look, the nationality and the initials to be a great PR coup for Aston.

All the McLaren drivers have contracts to be at McLaren next season but only one has a contract to drive Alonso. If JB can get a competitive drive in 2016 away from McLaren he should go for it as I dont think he will drive next year. However, if Aston Martin do come in and rebrand Red Bull, Force India or Williams then I can't think of a better Aston Martin brand ambassador in the paddock than Jenson Button. Aston Martin will not come into F1 next year and rebrand anything as they have no money. As Mercedes have a small holding in Aston Martin they may put a AM badge on the Merc engine if they supply Red Ball.

You might reasonably think that JB has the skill set that Hass would find very useful next year - a bit like FM at Williams.
On the other hand a chap who needs a car set up in a particular way is probably not your first choice of a development driver. Also he has form of going up the wrong path, most noticeably in 2009 & 2012. Gaz. said:

What happened in 2009?2012 I'll grant you - he had a major set-up 'wobble' in the middle part of the season but won in Brazil towards the end convincingly enough.....
I was thinking more 15 years experience, resilience in adverse circumstances, has raced against the best (I agree mainly as a No2), is brilliant at pressing palms and PR, American (English) is his first language. These skills Vs those of the other likely contenders in the first year are imperatives. They need to be on a stable platform by the end of year 1 and some unknown driver will not give them that. I don't think that they will be expecting podiums.
The other driver is bound to be a Ferarri protégé but I am pretty sure they won't be wanting to get Kimi in a seat, for all the above reasons.
