Just watching the GP2 qualifying and over half the GP2 cars are quicker than the Marussia cars.
1.2 behind Ericson and 1.4 behind Grojean !
1.5 million euros to run at GP2 car and how much for a F1 car - they really screwed up the F1 regs
And sound better, are more exciting to watch and the quali gaps are always tiny....1.2 behind Ericson and 1.4 behind Grojean !

GP2 is like Ford Fiesta racing, while F1 is the Bugatti Veyron races.
When they are all circulating for practice you basically have 2 fields of c.700kg cars with something between 600 and 700bhp. Lap times are always going to be similar. Its best to look at one lap pace in Q3. That shows how fast an F1 car can go - but they don't lap this pace at any other time due to the regs.

Well Rosberg looks a bit rattled and when he has a bad start to the weekend it rarely seems to turn around..... plus Raikkonen's long run pace was decent (ish), so maybe it wouldn't be that surprising if a Ferrari did split the Mercs.
Then again Redbull looks fairly decent if they can get to the end of the race without blowing up.

I just saw Hamilton mentioned in his blog that if he gets three wins from the next four races, he would equal the number of wins Senna had in the same number of races in his career - 41 wins from 161 races.

Really? In 2011 (or 12 or 10, somewhere a few years ago now)! Button drove a stonker in the rain.
Last year Lewis drove the wheels off it and was performing overtakes all over the show, if memory serves a 2 for the price of 1 at one point as well....
That overtake got described on one forum as 'the most clumsy piece of driving I have ever seen' because he had a little steering lock on when the fronts locked up.... I know, I race in one However look at the gaps in MotoGP etc. It doesn't have to be a one make series for that to be the case.
But to be fair, it's a particularly close year in MotoGP. Honda and Yam although different characteristics have arrived in a similar place. The trouble is, if one of them do a spectacularly good job (as merc have, and as RBR have in recent years) the gaps start to appear. We've seen Marc on the Honda put silly gaps into the field last year.It doesn't have to be a one make series, it doesn't have to be anything specific in the rules. It needs good competitors who operate at similar levels.
So business as usual, Merc to be 1 sec+ faster in QF? Disappointing to see where Williams are, I can only hope they both got traffic in their qualifying practice runs. What does Raikkonen have to do to catch a break and get a good resuslt; Sky suggesting he will be lucky to get out for qualifying due to the engine issue.

Williams were always going to struggle with the type of track it is.Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
