Has anyone on here been to the Singapore Grand Prix by any chance?

Although we've had the flights sorted for ages we really need to get our circuit tickets now.
The cheap grandstand is Bay - which looks OK but from what I've read it says its cramped.
The next one up is Stamford which is twice the price. Is it worth upgrading to Stamford with just Zone 4 walkabout access or is Bay with zone 3 and 4 walkabout good enough?

The OH and I looked at a Singapore GP package trip. The basic package included the bay grandstand but when I stared Googling for pics it became quickly apparent that you'd see virtually nothing. Look at this pic ...

All you're going to see is the cars come round the corner on your right and disappear again round the corner on your left. Total waste of a long haul trip really! We looked at various upgrades and ascertained that it'd be getting on for £1k extra per person to get seats with a decent view.

I did a package last year - Bay on Fri, pit exit/T1 on Sat, Padang on Sun.

Bay was actually fine. Let's face it, you'll watch most of the race on the screens. From the pit exit you could see more of the track. Padang was easily the worst, just a straight. At least with Bay you have a great backdrop and, on Sunday, a great view of the fireworks. I think anywhere apart from pit straight will get boring for the whole weekend though, that's the nature of street circuits.

I've been in the light green bit near the front in 2011. Not a great view TBH but there is a big screen opposite. You will be very unlikely to see any overtaking.

The only action I saw was a car on fire and someone binned it trying to go under the grandstand. Couldn't see the prang but I think it brought out the safety car - memory hazy without looking it up

Went in 2013 and did Padang on Friday, Bay on Saturday and Turn 1 Sunday. Turn 1 was by far the best. The Bay grandstand is huge and you're quite a way back from the action, which takes something away from it being a street circuit. Bit like being in the stands at Silverstone.

We have friends who live out there and they go general admission each year and from what I saw that does give you a decent view in any of the 4 zones so if you can get there early to get a good spot that would be an option if not wanting to spend loads. It is a brilliant event and I'd love to go again. They make a huge show of the whole weekend, much more so than any of the European rounds.

I was in there in 2008 when Piquet Jnr crashed.
Good view of the screen, but not much else.

The support series assembly area was at the back of the stand so could get close to those cars.

I've not been to the GP but Singapore is worth a long weekend anyway. So much to see and do and Malaysia is a short car/bus trip.

Thanks for your input guys.
Bay is out then.

We've got Stamford or Esplanade as our other options.
I'm leaning towards Stamford as I think we will see more. Any other thoughts?

Yep I was in that stand too same year.

The best bit was during practice where you could watch the cars from a staircase in the tunnel section. The noise bouncing off the walls was incredible.

Does anyone have an opinion on which is the best stand for watching race action?

Or, perhaps the stand is relatively unimportant if you can just take in the atmosphere of the whole event weekend?

We had seats in the Grandstand opposite the pits for practice and qualy, which were great as there was loads of comings and goings in the pits etc. It was also above the bar / food and just a short walk to the stages at the north end of the circuit.

Then for the actual race we had a "walkabout ticket" and managed to get a spot in a stand opposite the final corner / entrance to the pits. That had a massive bonus of a sea breeze and we were right by the entrance to the track at the end, so we could get close to the podium at the end of the race.

Enjoy, wish we were going back this year.
