Hi guys,

I'm not so keen on watching delayed F1 highlights hours after the race on BBC, I'm even less keen on subscribing to Sky Sports as the only thing I would watch would be the F1.

It's great when BBC have the live coverage rights but that's few and far between.

Can anyone recommend a no contract way of maybe watching/streaming through my smart TV? Obviously happy to pay for a one day type pass to watch the race live.

I used to torrent it overnight and watch the next day but often my workmates spoil the surprise on Monday morning before I get a chance to watch.

So how do you non-sky users watch the races live?

If a friend has SKY they may kindly let you use their Sky GO log in. If they have sports you'll be able to stream it live on PC or ipad.

A rather obscure solution but for completely unrelated reasons we have Bulgaria satellite TV which shows all the races; obviously the commentary is in Bulgarian but radio-5 solves that problem. I can't remember what it costs but I think it's less than £4 a month.

I use a friends Sky Go as somebody else has suggested above, but Now TV is another alternative - £6.99 gets your 24 hours of access to all sky sports channels

I've had sky sports for years even before f1 went to ITV and back to the BBC, if I'm out and about I sky go it to my tablet, unfortunately your only allowed to connect 2 devices and my brother has the other login otherwise you could gladly have it, ask around some friends with sky sports, they might not even be aware of sky go, doesn't cost them any extra its just a freebie service from sky, my particular tablet has a HDMI port so is easily connected to a TV although pointless at home but useful if at a friends house without sky, you will of course need an internet connection either WiFi or tethering but you'll need an unlimited data package ideally if you tether

Thanks lads,

I think I'll pop up to Argos or Currys and buy a Now TV box, seems like an ok deal and there's no contract.

Like many I get Sky's F1 coverage for £10 a month because it's part of the legacy HD package which is no longer available.

I wonder how many people would actually subscribe to Sky Sports at £45.50 a month (£25.50 for existing Sky customers) to get coverage if the legacy deal finished.

I'm a lifelong F1 fan and Sky's coverage is excellent but I know I wouldn't.

I can't stand the sky coverage of F1, much prefer it on the BBC.

Shame that it's mainly highlights now...

You might want to check the cost of a Sky Sports week pass vs a Day pass, from memory it wasn't a lot more. Passes also occasionally come up on EBay, I've bought several without problem.

Also, you can have upto 4 devices and (from memory) 2 can be used simulatenously including tablets.

The week pass is £10.99, compared to £6.99 for the day pass. The week pass is handy if you want to catch the whole race weekend.

I'm on Sky's legacy HD pack, so I get the F1 channel with that, but if I wasn't a Sky subscriber I would definitely be looking at the Now TV option.

It's worth mentioning that there are Now TV apps available on PlayStation 3 & 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, Chromecast, Roku, YouView and Apple TV amongst others, so if you have any of those you shouldn't need the stand alone Now TV box.

There are some decent clearance bargains on the old NowTV box (squarer white one) bundled with Sports passes.
Currys and Argos had them last time I checked.

I'm watching Now TV on my 40" TV via my laptop plugged in. It is not quite HD of course.

I support a rugby team so for most Saturdays I'm out and about so the £7 for Now's weekend package.

The only problem is that I'm not a particular fan of their broadcast team. I like Brundle and Hill, but am not particularly keen on the rest. I prefer BBC.

I watch Sky coverage on Now TV through my old Playstation 3. I always buy Sky Sports Day Passes on EBay for a bit of a saving on the full price. The only downside is you can't pause it to go for a wee half way through.

I don't know a soul who pays that though.
And that does get you a little more than just Sky Sports too - about another 150 channels... (Some of which are dire, admittedly, but some decent )

Well, Sky paid £4.18bn for Premier rights, (just over £10M per game!) got to make that up somehow I guess?
