Legacy Sky HD package here.

If I were ever to lose that legacy package, I would have to sit down and very carefully work out exactly what it is I watch on Sky and what (legal) alternatives there are for continuing to watch the things that I like to watch. Mostly that's things on channels like Quest, the Discovery channels, National Geo, etc.

The Sky Sports day pass thing sounds like a viable alternative though - I find that I'm less interested in watching FP and Quali than I used to be.

I watch it through Indian Satelite TV DishTV. I get all the top films, Premiership matches and Formula 1 from Sky. And i pay $50 for 6 months of subscriptions...you wonder why Sky charge so much when im home.

Quite simple really. BBC when live and if not then RTL with the sound off using my £25 Lidl satellite receiver, old dish and Radio 5 Live for commentary.

Personally, I think that if you have the money then the Sky F1 coverage is the best we have ever had in the UK. Ever. It took the pinnacle of the BBC and then cherry-picked the people who made it so (Brundle, mainly) and then built on it.

Yeah, you can bh about the money, about Murdoch, about the BBC, about the licence fee, about whatever you want to bh about. But that's how it is. I even rate Crofty as a commentator.

Anyway. Whatever.

I agree. They just need to ditch Johnny "sort of" Herbert. He can't string a sentence together and when he does you wonder why he bothered.

I've always had a lot of time for Johnny "welllll" Herbert. A very straight guy who will always give a fair balanced opinion on stuff.

It's little wonder that when he won his GP he was hoisted onto the shoulders of the P2 and P3 men. Thoroughly likeable chap.

I thought I'd add:

I've been unable to watch all the BBC coverage live, missing the start by just 14 minutes for one race, so I watched the recording while the race was still on. Despite knowing that it was only a few minutes back, even fewer after a pace car, I found it distracting. I was thinking of fast forwarding and then watching live.

Anyone else felt the same way?
No! Since F1 went to Sky I have watched it on the BBC only therefore have to take slight precautions for non-live races to ensure I do not find out the result before watching the highlights. However am so used to those precautions that I often will record the live show instead of watching it live and watch it later as if live. No temptation to fast forward or look up the result.

Not watching all races live means I have my Sundays back!

I agree, he makes a good counterpoint to the rather serious Damon Hill.

I didn't think I'd say it, but there are too many F1 races in a season.

I have given a list of the dates that the BBC have no live race to friends and family and so have your experience of getting some Sundays back.

My lad is captain of my rugby club's first XV and so most Saturdays in the season have gone as well. So a Sunday off is a bit of a bonus.

I was at a friends house for one race and half a dozen of us followed it on live timing. Odd though it sounds, it was quite exciting. You need company though. A couple of the blokes there were real nerds and told some magic stories.

So from predicting the split of coverage would be a disaster, it has turned out to be not quite so bad as anticipated.

I won't watch illegal streaming - despite having stopped being a police officer for over 10 years, old habits die hard - so will only pay for four/five Sky races this season.

The only downside is having to listen to Jordan's interminable questions and statements.

Via Sky's F1 channel, in HD. I don't watch any of the races on the BBC anymore.

If you have Sky Multiscreen you get Sky Go Extra free which allows you to add up to four devices onto Sky Go.

Legacy Sky HD package too.
I can't really fault SKY's coverage. They offer more F1 than I have time to consume. I set the SKY box to record practise, qualifying, the lot and then watch what I choose.
Would have to think twice about paying for SKY sports though, if I lost that package.

Another point in favour of ad hoc Sky sports via Now!, I've just got two tickets to a RWC event on Sunday. So saved myself £7. Not much against the price for the seats though.

I started on Sky when the F1 went over from BBC.
Never had it before.

Sky HD package had F1 for free - then got scammed into taking a discounted package which lost me the F1.
Have to have it out with them every year now to keep it at a similar price to what I used to pay but with sports included.

Currently pay around £30/mo incl ent+ and sky sports.

Another one on legacy package here. As above if I did lose it i would seriously look at my sky package.
There was rumour a couple of years ago that f1 would be dropped from the legacy package. Iirc sky got a lot of complaints and decided against it.
I'd also persuade my dad to give me a sky go password for my iPad and then AirPlay the f1 to the tv via Apple TV box.

Luckily I had read about losing F1 when changing packages. But I was not impressed when they did not mention that during one of their sales calls. Indeed in this day and age I would seriously consider dropping SKY altogether if they removed F1.

We have a legacy HD pack but still paying £41 a month for Sky (no movies or other sport), box has just died so investigating options (no Virgin around here).

Just done the maths and we're off to BT, £15 per month for every channel we normally watch in HD anyway (plus the bonus of all the BT Sports channels), then going to pay £6.99 for Sky races via a Now TV box. Saving £230 per year, not bad!

Can you pause the F1 on the Now TV box or does it just stream live with no control over it?
