Just how stupid do Red Bull think the fans are? The only Swiss engineering in this deal will be the watches sold to fund the cheque that's been handed over.

That is what I was getting at above. TAG (Techniques Avant Guard iirc) the engine / racing company split from TAG the watch company a long time ago, it would be very odd for a watch company to brand an engine which they have nothing to do with.
If the engine does well, I'm sure TAG the watch company will try to make an association in ther marketing.
They haven't gone beyond having drivers as brand ambassadors in the past and it would be odd if when the watch company was sold there was not a strong "you will not make engines and we will not make watches" clause in the sale papers.
I think you are overstating TAGs involvement in the turbo engine of the 1980s. The engine was entirely designed and manufactured by Porsche. TAG simply paid for it and put their name on it. There is no TAG engine/racing company so no reason for them to prohibit TAG Heuer from rebranding another engine.

So...Infinity Red Bull Racing Tag Heur?

Red Bull Chassis, Renault Block, Red Bull shiny bit developed with Tag Heur's help?

What a mess.

And why aren't Torro Rosso running it too? More development miles instead of an old Ferrari engine surely?
so, it's a Renault (Mecachrome) engine again!

well done chaps... (was this really worth pissing off the entire grid over?)

It is complete bks, unless Renault have just employed a lot of Swiss nationals at their engine facility.

Ive been watching this and I guess it was time for them to hand the engine building over to Tag as they are strapped for cash.

Hopefully, on the face of it, they can dial in some extra power by winding up the movement of the second hand engines.

Not sure that the battery power will be enough though, unless they are automatic.

Given TAG had to admit a few years back that they were using rebranded Seiko movements in one of it's expensive Swiss watches, a rebranded Renault engine is right up their street....
