If you look at all the markets Red Bull are in, also multiple other forms of sport from cars, to planes to even down hill racing on ice skates. It doesn't sound so silly to have a Merc or AMG badge on every hat or can Red Bull sell.

If LH and NR comes 1st and 2nd and Merc top of constructors, do they come home with hundreds of millions after what they have spent that season?

The racing guys will say no but the accountants might say yes :P

Think some of you going on about reb bull/merc "incompatibility" of markets are confusing corperate imaging with actual demographics. Many reb bull drinkers will be ticking option boxes on a company repmobil or deciding which bratwagon to pcp in the all too soon future.

Think many of you are giving the newey-less rb design squad far too much cred too. I'd be surprised if they beat the company team whichever engine they get (except honda of course)

interestingly there has been no word I've seen about toro rosso ending their deal with Renault.

Not sure if it is brave or foolish for Ferrari to supply Redbull next year. I would not be surprised if the Redbull designed car could regularly beat the Ferrari IF supplied with identical engine performance.

They are probably not, they are looking for buyer themselves and are perhaps trying to get Renaults attention as well. If Renault are looking to buy a team it would make sense to consider a current Renault customer who isn't being a bad old Mr meany with them. And buying STR will mean they can just buy the team. They don't have to worry about the long term deal Lotus did with Mercedes and possibly spending more buying them out of the contract,

Might also be easier logistics/finances etc around buying STR as well, as its a mainland Europe based team within the Euro zone.....?

So how do we get tickets to the party that La Reggie will throw when their new factory team beats Red Bull with whatever engines they have in next year! smile

I think the factory team plus 3 customer teams thing makes sense. On that basis,

RBR get Ferrari engines and Ferrari supply Haas & Sauber
STR get Merc engines and Merc supply FI & Williams
Lotus & Manor to Renault
You think that Red Bull will give the title-winning, widely-regarded-as-the-best engine to Toro Rosso and put the Ferrari engine with the 'main' team?

silly
Absolutely. You do realise that STR are for sale?

Both teams are not joined at the hip and STR will need to demonstrate independence in order to find a buyer. Meanwhile, Merc get a tie-in of sorts with RedBull and 'access' to their young marketable drivers. Bigger picture buddy

It's pretty academic now that Mercedes have rejected the deal but STR is still owned by Mateschitz and the 'Red Bull' team is still the number 1 team, with STR as the junior team.

The Mercedes engine is considered the best in the field. Big picture or not, if Red Bull have access to that engine, it's going in the number 1 team, not the junior team.

On autosport now that Mercedes have had talks with manor about an engine supply deal, as I mentioned yesterday it'll probably be at a discounted rate too in order to Wehrlein in a seat now that force India doors are closed.

Rumour was that dallara was withholding force India's tub because of late payment, merc stepped in and paid dallara so they would release force India's tub, think it only came for the second test and as such Wehrlein got a days testing out of it before dropping back into the merc, seems merc will try and get him in somewhere, lotus would have been a good shout, here's a few million dollars if you give our boy a race seat, lotus could do with the money after all, probably crash less than crashtor as well!

that would free up an engine for RB? (or a second one for TR?)

Whoever wrote that dosen't know much about F1....

Quote:.....but the sticking point is Bernie Ecclestone’s refusal to grant them payments from the historic funds pot. This despite Renault being by some way the second most successful engine supplier to F1 of all time.....

Second most successful by some margin.....huh?

Ford-Cosworth still have a handfull of wins more than Renault as it stands, so not even 2nd most successfull, let alone by some way rolleyes

Why are Renault so insistant on buying Lotus with all its debt? Wouoldnt they be better off buying STR Force India, Manor etc?

A lot more facilities and equipment at Lotus/Enstone than Force India.
