What are you people actually basing these opinions on please?

It seems it's all hear say and random speculation. Neither I or any of my colleagues seem to have this opinion that we are over worked and underpaid.

Pub chat & hearsay, very few seem to have facts.

Ah - that's because you all are equally so, so have no yard stick to base it on wink

Thing is, after all the hours and traveling etc it must be sweet to see the car your involved with get to the finish, maybe points or if your lucky and at a game team a podium smile

I've not been part of the speculation regarding hours/pay aside from querying contracts, but I know a few guys in F1 in various roles (trackside IT, logistics, transport, mechanic) at Force India, Mercedes and Red Bull. All of them freely admit to finding it very tough going at times, but all are still there after a good number of years and all earning good money.

I know at least one would have quit when they had their first child, but fortunately they were offered a role back at the factory for a year, which they took and as a result of the wider experience have now moved into a very good senior role.

I've often contemplated the idea of a career in Formula 1, or motorsport for that matter. This thread has served as reminder of the negatives I discovered from speaking to individuals already employed in motorsport. Looks glamorous from the outside looking in, but not so much from within.

Coming from an engineering role in the energy industry, I'd have to take something of the order 50% reduction in salary (from what I gather) plus consider relocation - currently reside in NE Scotland.

I have little doubt it would be a rewarding career but not sure I'm ready to switch from a 'work to live' to a 'live to work' role. I currently switch my computer off at 1600hrs everyday, not going to give that up in a hurry.
