McLaren to win the 2016 Championship

I haven't been keeping track, how are Alonso & Button fairing against each other? Alonso is ahead in the championship, but how much of that is due to reliability?
If I'm reading the F1 Fanatic website correctly then it's six retirements each, those being made up of one accident apiece and five in race mechanicals for Alonso, with Button having four in race mechanicals and one DNS. With the car being so rubbish/unpredictable I'm not sure any comparisons between the drivers would be very valid.
If the McLaren is even mid pack next year I'll be very surprised, I would think Alonso has an eye on the year afer and I've no idea why Button decided to stay. I mean, in the most recent race Button was 2.6 seconds away from the pole time and Alonso almost 3 seconds back. Even if the drivers know something we don't, and you have to assume they do, it's just hard to see how they'll make up the gap. Even more so when you take into account that the other teams will no doubt improve as well next year.

Alonso is ahead on qualification performances too, he wasn't that bothered in the last race saying this engine was one of the worst he's had and given the fact that he was in for penalties too. Austin should see a slight improvement, though I'm not sure Jenson will get the new engine but if he does he'll be starting from the back then. With the car being so rubbish/unpredictable I'm not sure any comparisons between the drivers would be very valid.

BOT, I'd imagine McHonda will be fighting for podiums, I think the championship is a stretch too far as they will not have proven the reliability of the 2016 PU yet.
Even if mclaren had an engine that has 50 bhp more than everyone else on the grid, they'd still mess things up, they're the most incompetent team from the past 20 years, stupid radio calls, pitlane decisions, awful pit stops etc...
Lewis must be thanking this lucky stars he moved when he did, even then, you can argue it was afew years later than he should have, he probably felt obliged because of the support Ron gave him earlier on in his career.
It's been a farse for a long time, and nothing has changed in recent years, if anything it's getting worse.
Unfortunately there's no coming back from where they are for many, many years.
Why Fernando chose to go there I'll never know.

Yes, yes, but do you think they will win the Championship next year? Lewis must be thanking this lucky stars he moved when he did, even then, you can argue it was afew years later than he should have, he probably felt obliged because of the support Ron gave him earlier on in his career.

I've just read back my last post, maybe a little harsh on mclaren, but they have big problems, and as I said, even with a engine that's up there with the merc/ferrari's, I honestly couldn't see them fighting for any championships.
Let's hope it doesn't get to a point where they feel f1 isn't the way forward for them, and pull out all together, concentrate all their efforts on making road cars.

Pressure is a nasty mistress at times and can do some strange things to normally competent people.
I'm sure that some/much of the bad decisions during the race are directly related to the pressure that comes from being in an historically top team finding themselves at the wrong end of tbe grid.
Give them a better chance of competing and I'm convinced the performances off the track will also improve.

it's all down to Honda.
Back once again to the point that with championship winning engines, 2013 & 14 were McLaren's worst seasons for a decade. It's not all down to Honda.
Even with the best possible package of car, engine, aero, driver - McLaren have repeatedly shown they will find a way to get it wrong, rather than succeed.
The token rule limits a teams ability to improve drastically, and Honda were given less tokens than everyone else in 2015, but providing reliability is not an issue 2016 will be very interesting

I think he read that really well, and could see what was happening with key staff joining and Mercedes pumping in tens of millions to make it into the team it is today. I'm sure it's been worth the outlay for the PR and advertising it has generated around the world. Why Fernando chose to go there I'll never know.

Why would Alonso and Button continue?
1. Money.2. They won't get a seat at another half decent team.
I think they want success and would have gone to WEC if it represented a better chance.
I truly believe that they know whats coming in 2016.

That's the thing with the wealthy, they always want to be more wealthy, hence Stalone selling bread, and Arnold selling insurance. They'll do all sorts of crap for money, and face it, swanning about losing in f1 is better than working.
