It seems even with the biased UK media coverage, especially from the BBC, Hamilton's character and conduct remains somewhat Marmite for the viewing public. On track let's hope for closer and more sustained battles next season.
But isn't that a good thing? Itmachine if you had a grid full of rosbergs or buttons, while I'm sure it would be very gentlemanly or easy for the PR guys, everything would be monochrome and boring, you need fans to be one one side or the other, it's what makes sport great. Yup Hamilton isn't everyone's cup of tea but neither was Schumacher, Prost, Senna etc etc....can you imagine the sport without those characters?

for sure. He does not seem to be the smartest driver on the grid ala Prost, Senna, Schumacher, but still gets results. Personally I'd like to see a grid full of Verstappen's and Alonso's.

I'm no fan of Hamilton but he is hugely preferable to Alonso.... Hamilton says the occasional silly thing because he is a bit of an airhead IMO. Alonso is just a st stirrer - everything he says is loaded with double meaning - very much like "Ron Speak", I wonder if that is why they don't get on, too alike?

The likes of Bottas/Button/Grosjean/Hulkenburg are all totally inoffensive.... but bland.

So no retraction then (tells us more about your lack of class than his tbh), just another sly dig- this time about intelligence ...even though he's beaten his supposedly much smarter (speaks 5 languages!) team mate the last 3 seasons on the trot.

So is Hamilton SO talented that he doesn't need to be smart, or Rosberg not as smart as everyone thinks or Rosberg just not that talented? take your pick.

the sly dig was here.

http://web.de/magazine/sport/formel-1/lewis-hamilt...

and now Hamilton is asking "Please do not believe all that you read". Seems to have slipped his mind there was a TV camera present.

The reliability of Rosberg's car in 2015 for DNF's was pretty bad too.

You obviously cannot read.....this entire thread has been about context. Now some context has been thrown in by a post about a page ago, it's basically a none story...like I've said all along an 8 second clip of a full interview with no idea what the question or full answer was means nothing!

No it wasn't. Ros - 2 DNF. Ham - 1 DNF. Not quite sure that qualifies as "pretty bad".

you do know what 'context' means don't you?

& what was the excuse in 2014? ...& 2013??

couldn't take your pick could you? ...again this thread is telling us far more about you, than Hamilton ...so carry on.

Hamilton should just let his driving do the talking. Having sly digs at former champions shows a lack of humility.

The "context" is in his answer, it's very straightforward. It's understandable the MS fan club felt upset.

NO there is no context in his answer, the context comes from when you realise what the question and full answer is! He wasn't having a sly dig at all, the Italian interviewer said they thought Hamilton was more like Schumacher than Senna, Hamilton replied no, because he hasn't won championships the way Michael did....read into that what you will but it could mean a multitude of things! And which ever way you look at it, he's right, he hasn't won championships like Schumacher has

Yes, context is often on the interviewees side too. Politicians do it.
Context always crops up at our weekly editorial and compliance meetings.

So Hamilton's hero Senna didn't crash into others to win ?

Yes he did, just like vettel and many other drivers have, but stop changing the subject......the question was about Michael and he correctly answered he hadn't won championships like him....it's plebs like yourself that have blown things way out of proportion and jumped to conclusions with 8 seconds of a video clip without engaging your brain cell

Next thing you will do is say Hamilton is desecrating the memory of Senna because he's modelled his life around him....

Oh and while I'm at it....you shall now be expelled from piston heads and thrown into the online wasteland....am I correct that you have just 'dissed' a racing legend who died in a racing accident.....hypocritical st! ;-)

I love this odd Franglaise spelling of fan-boy. Of course bois means wood in France; Chesham Bois, Theydon Bois, Hersham boys Oops! wink

Perhaps it's a Pistonheads thing? laugh

LMFAO!!!! Oh don't worry I'm just having fun! Love it how people come onto forums and attack drivers on 1 shred of information...realise they're wrong but don't want to admit it, and spend the next 7 pages trying to wriggle their way out of it....we've gone past the denial stage, Bo is now onto the 'changing the subject' stage....soon he will be on the back against the wall, so I'm ignoring the thread completely stage, but will make a comment like he doesn't have time or can't be bothered with the thread anymore :-p

On a complete tangent I was skipping through the TV channels last night and they had the Catalunya GP from 1991 on.

From watching it it's amazing how the legends of drivers are talked about today compared to going back and watching a race from that time.

Now it was only a highlight show but just watching Senna in that race you'd have thought he was a pay driver.

He waved past his teammate (for seemingly no reason)
Dropped it on a corner almost wiping out (looked like it could have been a deliberate attempt) Mansell, who was his closest rival in the title race.
Hardly bothered defending any overtake attempt

Oh and on another note, pitstops were embarassing compared to what we see now.

Let's see when the same question is popped, about whether LH thinks he's won in a similar manner to Senna.

The racing was much more exciting in Senna's day - too many rules now.
