BBC to pull out of F1 entirely.

Well done BBC, even less reason to pay up.
But if they do walk away then someone else gets on the case and offers coverage for a few quid a race, or a better more full coverage plus a live stream for a bit more they could be onto a winner.
But what Sky or Now TV want to watch via them is just a joke.

What they charge you is directly related to what they have to pay CVC/Bernie.But if they do walk away then someone else gets on the case and offers coverage for a few quid a race, or a better more full coverage plus a live stream for a bit more they could be onto a winner.

I thought F1 had to be FTA, and not just in the UK? Or will F1 quietly drop that requirement? If they do I think they'll be in for a very rough ride, as sponsors viewing figures will plummet.
C4 were in the running last time weren't they and complained of shenanigans? Be interesting to see if they threw their hat in again.
There won't be much sport left at all on the BBC soon. Event eh 6 Nations coverage will be split from next year with ITV

Surely ITV or C4 will get sole coverage from 2019?C4 getting the rights would probably suit Bernie quite nicely - live coverage with adverts on free to air, and live coverage without adverts during the race on Sky.
Of course.
His current business model has been to not really worry about losing traditional TV audiences on the presumption that the "X" million viewers lost in (say) the UK, Germany, France etc can easily be replaced by "X x 10" million potential viewers in "Wherethehellareweastan" or similar.
I think the exodus of the sponsors is testament to the sense of this strategy.

Will not miss it. Ball dropped on a multitude of levels within and without.
Trouble is, the WEC will be be so far out of a Beeb hipster's knowledge-zone they will not even think about that as an alternative. No class/style anymore when it comes to Motorsport you see?....
I can't see them ever giving aside 6 hours for a race, let alone 24 - the viewer numbers just wouldn't be there.Trouble is, the WEC will be be so far out of a Beeb hipster's knowledge-zone they will not even think about that as an alternative. According to Radio 5 Live it's the "Red Button" sports services that may be the main target.
That's a shame as they often show the likes of swimming and boxing on there, but I guess they're pretty niche markets and if I want to watch something that few other people want to watch I should pay for it.Eric Mc said:

Is there an exodus of sponsors though? Sure they seem to be moving around a bit but the successful teams are still plastered with sponsors. BT might snap it all up, pushing for content hard at the moment and have even been expanding their motorsport offerings (even a very lengthy weekend magazine show, which was pretty good).
You might argue that it would kill the viewing figures (although BT is pretty cheap compared to Sky), but as long as Bernie brings in an initial windfall he don't seem too bothered by that.

If the BBC are to make £30m of cuts from sports from the new year then they could save two thirds of that from just showing the FOM world feed with Ben Edwards screaming over the top.
Which, to be honest, was similar to how they covered some of the races in the Murray Walker/James Hunt era.ukaskew said:

And if BT do,then hopefully it will be on ITV 4 as a highlights show like the Moto GP is currently.F1 really has lost the plot imho. You might argue that it would kill the viewing figures (although BT is pretty cheap compared to Sky), but as long as Bernie brings in an initial windfall he don't seem too bothered by that.

Yes, they have to reduce the £3,700,000,000 budget by 4%. Tough isn't it?
Never mind, if you like formulaic cooking, gardening or DIY programmes or are dumb enough to be satisfied with banal soaps, you'll be OK with the Beeb.
Total waste of taxpayers money.

Let's hope for more coverage of other high level motorsports, such as WEC, DTM and national GT racing. But let's not hold our breaths.
No, let's not. More chance of me dating the playmate of the month....At the Autosport show a few years ago Steve Rider actually talked about hoping the Beeb would bother to cover other top series - but admitted it wasn't going to happen; F1 or nothing. A shame, WRC, WEC et al could surely be had for peanuts knowing it was on the Beeb - and the viewership that brings......
