I though the Abu Dhabi race wasn't the best this year but it also wasn't the worst!

However, I do think this season has been a good season. I've enjoyed a lot of it and look forward to watching next year (some how!!)

ETA: What was that nonsense with all the paint at the end?!?!

I thought it was a good idea to record the race and to watch it tonight after the kids would have gone to bed and the wife away. So I installed myself in front of the TV, beer and chips at gripping distance. Guess what: b*****y Davis Cup!!!!!!!!

FF until the end of the recording. 3h of boring tennis. Thanks BBC. I will go back to RTL Plus for next season. German reliability.

Why was there no heads-up or message during the tennis?

That's why we have the iPlayer smile

However - hearing (in the last few laps) that Nico's car was being detuned remotely to compensate for Lewis's bad luck was beyond belief - surely the answer is to add noise, power and, above all, give decision making back to the drivers rather than it being determined by some boffin on the end of a sat. link.
Really? Christ.
Was you watching a different race?

I'm pretty sure they were telling Lewis to turn down his engine to the same mode as Nico and when he didn't they told nico to turn his up then asked him to turn it back down when Lewis turned his down.

My understanding is that Lewis turned his engine up without permission in an effort to close the gap to Nico and after Lewis failed to turn it back down again Mercedes permitted Rosberg to turn his engine up to neutralise it.

I made it clear. I fell asleep.

I watched the highlights and saw this. Pinnacle of motorsport right there

What the hell just happened with iplayer? The race was about ten laps from the end and it flicked to the podium questions?

Well done BBC. Ffs!

Lovely lady up on the podium must be glad she didn't pick a bright bra today, I can see the uproar in that region if she had hehe
It would be good to see more women on the podium, and not just in countries where it can be seen as a political statement.

I was out all day, set it to record for BBC1 and the gits put the tennis on and moved it to 2. Watched the BBC3 highlights on iPlayer instead - a blessing really as there weren't that many highlights and it saved a lot of time!

It's been a good season in the main. Some great races, topped by Austin. There's been some tremendous racing further down the field although there was little, ie no, doubt as to who would win the WDC.

I missed seeing three live races on TV, that's the first year that I've missed more than one, and then that was only once.

I enjoyed it. I'm nervous for next season, and damn near terrified for 2017 if these engine lite regs are really going to happen. So let's all be nice to one another for the off season and just remember the fun times this year.

I'd say there's been a few good battles and one good race this season. This has been by far the dullest of the last 8 or 9 years.

I didn't even record the race yesterday as I'm more likely to watch the repeat, this thread just managing 13 pages says it's not even worth my effort to do that

Final 2 thoughts :

F1 is full of high profile fathers - so where is Keke ???

I'm really looking forward to seeing Fernando in the Audi up against Webber in the Porsche at Le Mans next year (I kid you not..)

Edited by moffspeed on Sunday 29th November 17:27
Keke has always had a fairly hands off approach to Nico's racing career so it wouldn't surprise me if he was enjoying himself somewhere nice wondering how he's managed to sire such a miserable offspring. FA in an Audi next year? No way but if he does I'll donate a fiver to your favourite charity.
Keke used to be a regular around the paddock. The very observant mrs hairyben pointed out to me some time ago he hasn't been seen since monaco '14.

Just a warning - I was the guy who (early this year) predicted that Nissan's LMP 1 effort at Le Mans this year would struggle to match LMP 2 lap times, so winning a similar bet - so take care of your money !!

Edited by moffspeed on Sunday 29th November 18:14
That wasn't a particularly hard prediction to make though was it!! I think most informed Le mans fans would have seen that also.

I predicted a porsche win!

On a serious note though... Alonso drive at le mans. Personally don't see it happening and audi announcement of drivers and two cars doesn't help.

The BBC would like to drop it, FOM told them they have a contract for a further three seasons and they'll see them in Melbourne.
Poor show today punting it to BBC2
What difference does it make?
"Poor show" is putting it mildly.

It makes a difference to those who were set up to record the programme and expecting to be able to watch it later, and then find they've got a complete recording of bloody tennis. Why didn't the BBC put the tennis on the other channel instead of shifting the F1 coverage?

Yep; yesterday morning before work I set the F1 to tape, merrily went off to work to find out that in fact it had been swapped to BB2, the wife was out so I couldn't ring her to ask her to re-set it.

As it happens I caught most of it at work and it was generally pretty boring anyway.

Seems not everyone agrees that Mercedes deliberately sabotaged LH's race... he may just have been beaten fair and square:

I was switching between the race and Andy Murray, and every time I switched back to F1 it was like taking a mogadon trip.
