I get the impression that watching race highlights at midnight CET is probably the only practical option.
Definitely stay off the internet/TV/radio/don't talk to anyone until you have watched the race! Spoilers are going to be everywhere.

we have to go to a play in the afternoon, whole family is going, then in the evening to a musical where a friend is singing in it. Last race of the season and we can't watch it live frown

The upside is that after the musical my sons are coming home with me to watch it in the cinema so a good stock of beer has been laid on smile

Is the channel 4 player hd? Looks a bit ropy next to iplayer
It most certainly isn't. Low res and low bit-rate.
I've seen less pixelated games of Mario Kart.
It sucks.

I have to say on the whole I've enjoyed the Channel 4 F1 coverage. I found Steve Jones quite refreshing as anchor, and he seemed to grow into the role well over the season - a huge improvement over Suzi Perry when it was on F1. Mark Webber and David Coulthard were god both individially and as a double act. Eddie Jordan, however, remains Eddie Jordan.

Pretty much this. Although Eddie Jordan does ask the awkward questions no one else will ask so he does have his uses, I just don't think he is cut out for live TV maybe more pre-recorded interviews with drivers/team members would suit him better?

I've really enjoyed the C4 coverage too and it definitely improved as the season went on. Steve Jones grew into the role well, similar to Jake years ago on the BBC.

I actually preferred the presenting aspect to that of the BBC tbh - it was far more relaxed whilst still retaining the decent interviews, etc. It was good to see the presenters bantering a fair bit of the time and it gave you an idea of how the BBC must have asked their presenters to keep it toned down to avoid offending, etc, whereas C4 at times were happy to let them get close to the line with some of their jokes, banter, etc smile

Zero technical content though frown Surely at the last race of the season, being live, having hours to fill, they could have had a rundown of next years rules, and got Susie Wolff to give some insight as to how Mercedes are tackling the challenge and how they think will maintain their dominance.

Steve Jones - Haven't taken to him at all. Get rid
Mark Webber - What a find. Really excellent addition to the team
Eddie Jordan - I quite liked him, but with the addition of Mark Webber it has shown Eddie perhaps isn't suited to the format. But the change has shown he is perfectly suited to the recorded interviews, inside knowledge and of course asking the questions others don't have the balls to ask.

If C4 want to fine tune stuff then

Replace DC with JByes
Replace Steve with Lee
More techie stuffyes

Yes - I'm sure DC is going to sack himself...

I really enjoyed the CH4 coverage this season, Jones was good, his very self confident/easy style worked well with Coulthard who was great as ever.

The final show with everyone was the best of the year, just a pity they couldn't have had them all at all races and all of them shown live!

I like Chandhok as well and would have liked to have seen more of Mrs Wolff throughout the season as well.

Eddie? Well he's just Eddie and no matter what you say provides great entertainment whether he means to or not.

And Lee has repeatedly said herself, even since the last year on BBC, that she had no interest in being the lead presenter as her current role leaves her free to do work / report on other sporting events such as the Olympics this year and a number of Horse Trial events for the BBC, amongst other commitments.

Did I hear Steve Jones remark that Suzie had a future world champion inside her, and she remarked, oh no pressure there then..

Yes, Mrs Wolff is pregnant. I bet the kid grows up to really hate motorsport hehe

Yeah, its a shame but DC runs the show and has repeatedly pointed out that it all comes down to the drivers. BBC thought that same thing and got rid of Gary Anderson.

Chandock was wasted as pit reporter IMO. The guy oozes passion and enthusiasm for the sport as a whole that is infectious - search out an old Motorsport Magazine podcast for proof, his analysis and geniability on Sky Sports has been far greater than all of the ex-F1 drivers put together.

Steve Jones is rather annoying and should stick to prime-time telly even though he's done a decent job in recent races.

I'm the exact opposite, Steve Jones is the reason I have stayed with Sky F1 as I just cannot stand him. He gives the impression that he is the star of the show, not the many people who have actually achieved something in the sport. What you call very self confident I call narcissistic arrogance.

Is it next year that C4 loses all the live races, so will only be able to show highlights?

2018 IIRC, will be a great shame.

Yep. Despite F1 losing some appeal with me, I still watch it. I don't have Sky. Unless there are alternative means (which won't be discussed here smile), I shall cease to watch it if it is only on Sky after 2018.

And from that point onwards virtually no one in the UK is watching F1 - imagine how the negotiations with sponsors will go?

Right - so for 2018 you will only have a live audience of around 200,000 in the UK - in that case we need to re negotiate how much we pay ( or leave as is more likely ).

2018 will be the last season for Channel 4 to have access to half of the races live as per the current arrangement. The races will be exclusively live on Sky for 2019 - 2024, with highlights avilable on "Free-to-Air", but that doesn't necessarily mean Channel 4.
