All well and good - but the trick would be to offer up some proper substance rather than a fast edit back beat sugar hit that pulls in some new punters but gives them little incentive to stay when something new comes along offering a different flavour of fast edit back beat sugar rush.

The problem broadcasters in general seem to think they have is lack of stickyness - they can't hold an audience for as long as they like - but the reality is they don't really try. They basically exacerbate the problem through their own methods of trying to grab them and then offer very little beyond that initial 'look at me! look at me!' pull in.

Thought the coverage was alright. I dumped Sky this year so C4 is all I have now and I was not disappointed.

Does Hamilton have some contract with the production team to big up his mates?
That piece to end the show where they asked Coulthard and Webber for a song to fit the weekend, they gave answers which were then dismissed in favour of Hamilton on his ipod. They played an RnB song I have never heard along with clips from the GP interspersed with a load of black people in a dark room, WTF has that to do with F1?
Not much but they're clearly trying to get new fans interested to replace the old codgers from a certain demographic that old codgers do not approve of.
I think C4's ethos/dynamic will actually work very well for Hamilton. The channel is a bit more 'out there'.

I can definitely see them giving Hamilton a good platform to air his music career and promote his mates. I had no problem with the choice of music/ artist it just seemed a bit weird to me to chop in what was maybe part of the music video with the F1 highlights.

A couple of highlights from the coverage were...

leading into the ad break after Alonso's shunt they had #Sundaydrivers over the top of Alonso sailing through the air upside down hehe

and Coulthards ace quip saying "there would be plenty of Tifosi who would gladly pay £800 for one of Vettel's nuts"

I think C4 should have used Lee Mackenzie as an anchor, and that the BBC should have started using her for this after Jake left. More knowledge of the sport and people - and comes across as more down to earth.
But who would ask the drivers about how disappointed they are?
Alas Lee has repeatedly said she never wanted/wants the anchor role; she only ever wants to be in the pit lane.

I think C4 did a very good job for their first race coverage. I really hope that they are able to do as good a job with the live races.

Steve Jones was good and can only get better the longer he's around the paddock.

I'm happy to have adverts as I know they pay for the coverage and some of the #'s into the ad breaks were very good - #Sunday drivers and #Proud Dad.

I thought the grid walk worked well, no wasted time looking for someone just cutting from one interview to the next.

Have to agree that Karun is a bit wasted in the pit lane role.

I think that might be after when she had to 'fill' for hours in a rained off qualifying session a few years ago, can't say I blame her!

Maybe swap roles with Ben Edwards, and promote Karun to commentator?

Ben's voice does get annoying after a while and have to turn the volume down a bit.

I thought the coverage overall was very good. I'm sure Steve will get better as he becomes more familiar with things and he'll build more of a relationship with Coulthard and the other presenters.

The breaks were a little jarring and i was disappointed to see them interspersed through the race highlights. This was also compounded with the rather annoying dubstep music played at the intro to each break where somebody obviously dialled it up to 11. Even watching it recorded where i could fast forward through the breaks i found myself trying to pre-empt them in order to skip quickly or turn down the bloody volume!

Trying something new I guess - and since I'd just sat through the highlights it always seems a bit superfluous to show highlights of the highlights afterwards. biggrin

New presenter is awful. No demeanour character or class and it seems very little knowledge of the sport. Far too 'trendy' for me. Seems more suited to one of these kardashian or hollyoaks type programs.

I thought the coverage on All4 was terrible. Certainly on mine the adverts weren't sycned so it dropped out mid quali to eventually bring you back once it had finished.

Race highlights? Could only find a 4 min video.

Absolute rubbish.

Have set up NowTV and will watch the Sky coverage on a day pass.

Spot on, though I think it perhaps says as much about the capacity of many viewers as it does about the broadcasters.

That feckin shouty commentator who's voice goes higher and louder when he realises a car has its wheels turning, or two cars are within passing distance of each other, trying to inject hysterical levels of excitement when nothing is happening really gets on my tits. The pictures were good enough, but I need to find a new sondtrack, I can't listen to that again.

He was quite good when he was doing BTCC but not so good on F1, the unnecessary shouting (as if his pants were on fire) is very annoying and we also have to turn the volume down, or off when he starts shouting.

The trouble is then you're have two technical commentators and no summariser (unless DC did it, and in fairness he has a few years under his belt now so maybe he would be more comfortable).

But you need someone to create a coherent for a layman base layer I commentary, which a technical guy can then add a bit of depth to

Steve Jones was ok given it was his first go, hope he improves though. He could do with turning down his laddish/I think I'm funny ways too.

Someone asked where Eddie is... doesn't he normally appear at race 4 because he's on his yacht at the moment?

The adverts are annoying but I guess a necessity. The st dubstep is as bad as the adverts. The visuals are a bit weak, just need to be simple, not putting race clips in some throbbing orange honeycomb. The intro isn't as good as the BBC's was but it's ok. Their microphones are naff.
