But has Susie Wolff actually made any insightful comments? I realise that she must know stuff that is not for public consumption, but her 'insider' position does not seem to generate anything more than the banalities that the other commentators fill the airspace with.

Even Alain Prost with access to the garages and personnel failed to elicit anything interesting.

We need Gary Anderson back.

its not exactly an exciting build up to the start of the race! I'd turn the sound off if they put that on.

And the current grid walk IS exciting? Do you really find; hearing from some driver's physio, watching someone walking through a crowd of back just letting words fall out of their mouth to fill time, or watching a to me/to you microphone farce the Chuckle Brothers would be proud of exciting?

I guess it does have a use. I know that from they point they switch to the grid walk I've got time to go to the kitchen, boil the kettle and make a cup of tea, safe in the knowledge I won't miss the start before I'm back.

I really don't want to know about their diets. Now James Hunt's diet might have been interesting but vegetable risotto holds no interest for me.

Whilst the subject matter was infantile, it gave Toto the opportunity to respond (very well IMHO) directly, professionally, live and using more that 140 characters. I would rather hear a team boss talk on a subject like that than a pundit or armchair internet expert, and the programme gave him that opportunity.

I am always happy to hear a team member talk about situations, even the most contrived and banal as in this case. He did Mercedes a power of good in his approach, dissing the mugs and then explaining how Mercedes go to work. The interviews are more interesting than most of the racing these days.
Agreed. In all honesty, I thought that was a pretty legit question and a good answer.

After all, Merc themselves decided to release a statement on social media to attempt to quell the conspiracy theories and James Allen et al thought there was sufficient merit in the subject to devote an article to it.

I think he asked a question that lots of people had been asking (a stupid question yes, but still legit) and Toto gave a robus answer and that's that. Pretty much exactly how I would expect an interview to go!

Bit of a bump. How do we all feel about how the team are getting on?

For me, as I predicted Steve Jones is the second coming of Jake Humphrey and the rest of the team seem to get getting on well! Although as much as I love him Mark Webber still needs a little more time in front of the camera but he's still racing so I guess he's pretty busy!

Steve Jones seems to have swallowed the "TV Presenter's Book of Handy Clichés" so comes across as very false. At the end of the day, parachuting in a "face" who has no prior knowledge or interest in a subject always reveals itself on TV.

At least every 2nd phrase is not 'sortof' as Johnny sortof Herbert annoyingly says.

I like Steve Jones presenting style on F1. If you want cliches, you need to go to Sky. Their footballiste delivery is one massive cliche.

Did you enjoy it when Jake was the main presenter?

I was neutral about him to be honest. He was a slick and professional at presenting.

That's the nature of TV today - slick presenters, vacant brains (in many cases). I prefer slightly less slickness but better knowledge and understanding.

But I'm a bit old fashioned I suppose and remember an era when most TV presenters tended to know what they were talking about but didn't look like male models.
