I was neutral about him to be honest. He was a slick and professional at presenting.

That's the nature of TV today - slick presenters, vacant brains (in many cases). I prefer slightly less slickness but better knowledge and understanding.

But I'm a bit old fashioned I suppose and remember an era when most TV presenters tended to know what they were talking about but didn't look like male models.
I can totally understand your point of view, as you said it is the nature of TV today.

I guess we can both be happy that Karun Chandhok is on C4? He needs to be on more often and for longer I feel.

Jake always came across as a normal bloke who understood that F1 was the star of the show.
For Steve, it is always Steve who's the star - which just doesn't work as a sports anchor.

Agreed. He appears to be a natural.

I tried watching C4 coverage last night. Steve Jones is still awful, pity as DC is good.

It's really a shame we are not getting this live on ch4 especially with the time zone fitting perfectly for early evening viewing.

Yep, I've had a busy and tiring day, yet I've got to stay up pretty late to catch the highlights.

It really is amazing how many times Croft gets his drivers mixed up during a race. How the hell this guy keeps his job is beyond my understanding.

Okay, I've studiously avoided news all afternoon, packed the family off to bed and mentally prepared for a late bed

Where the f**k are the highlights?!!

Supposed to start 10 mins ago!

I'll finish watching a taped Graham Norton show, I can then FFW through any ads.

At least the Sky commentary is much less shouty than C4. I can't stand the faux excitement.

My Son was watching the Sky coverage at his Girlfriends Dad's place. Thought it was "Corny" especially without MB.

Really, I found the Sky commentator terrible cringle worthy with his shouting when I watched one of the previous races on Sky (Barcelona maybe). I much prefer Ben Edwards, he seems a lot calmer.

I also quite like Steve Jones, he is slick and relaxed, and you are not worried he's gonna fumbles his words. He's there to ask questions and introduce the show and he does a great job at that. But then I didn't have a problem with Suzi Perry once she had a few races under her belt. I agree Karun is good though, and explains things in a clearly, he could do with a bit more to say on the technical stuff for the live shows, I feel.

I'm thinking of kicking Sky into touch as it's getting expensive for just watching F1 and the crap my wife watches.

I do like to watch the races live, though with three kids I rarely get left alone in peace - I wonder if terestrial will get highlights in 3 years time when Sky get all the live races exclusively?

And how many times do they have to say "This is going to be an exciting race" because its either wet or dry, because LH has qualified on pole, or at the back or is starting from the pitlane, because Manor was close to McLaren, etc, etc. Let the racing speak for itself, I'll be the judge of whether it excites me or not.

Says it all really - who would have ever thought that F1 would end up on Ch 4 given the heady days of massive audiences & BBC coverage!
It looks like F1 is very quickly becoming a minority "sport".
Lets try and get back to the days when it was actually about the racing and not the massive egos and money.
What am I saying, we all know that will never happen.
Now if you want true automotive thrills and sheer drama - watch the TT - bloody fantastic again even without our Guy.

Yes but it will be like ITV's highlight package for the moto gp currently. Probably be on the day after ie Monday night.

From what I can gather, from 2019 F1 will be exclusively Sky only, I read that as also no highlights on terrestrial as the only mention of highlights are for the British GP.

I've found most of the races I watch with the Edwards/DC commentary team send me off into a doze and I find myself wondering what I've just watched and whether it was really worth the effort. Could I have been doing something better with my time? However, when I watch the sky coverage I'm much more engaged with the event as a whole. Monaco was a case in point, gripping race. Canada highlights, I switched off after 30 laps and caught the result in the morning.

It might have to do with the fact when I watch sky I'm in the MB cinema at Brooklands rather than on my sofa, but even so, I find the ex-BBC/C4 commentary extremely tedious.
