Discussion

Yes they did To be fair to C4, re the annoying cutaways to minor slebs etc, they are stuck with the feed they are given during the race.
I remember a long lingering look at Palmers stricken Renault during a fairly interesting bit of track action.
I also got fed up with looking at Force Indias fighting over fk all when Bottas was reeling in Vettel near the end.

The race feed is filmed and directed by FOM so whichever channel you happen to watch your watching the same, its only the driver interviews and segments that are filmed by each seperate channel which is what gave me the idea and to see what channel 4 were doing while sky filmed nothing but Lewis crowd surfing and signing autographs C4 were interviewing Kvyat in the pen

ven so, DC saying to Toto, "I have nothing prepared, just say something." is not good enough.
I think that's quite funny. I also smiled when they cut to the post-podium room and Steve said "my gallery told me to cut there for...absolutely nothing! Thanks guys!"I really don't want Mr Cholmondley Warner presenting a serious program about a serious sport.
I am currently away from home (with limited WiFi) so have endured the Austrian and British GP's on 4.
Austria - didn't like it all but that could be because it was highlights - just felt dis jointed throughout.
British - Not too bad - DC & Webber were top class - JB was pretty good - Ben Edwards(?) was again ok and prerable to Crofty. The rest were dire.
Ideal World would be to have a merge of the two teams and let both Sky and CH4 use the "merged" team but that won't ever happen.
Ah well back to Sky for Hungary!

I am surprised on the number of people who don't know who Owen Wilson is. Despite being in the Cars franchise, he's been in quite a few big films and his attempted suicide was well publicised at the time, after his split from Kate Hudson. His brother Luke is also an actor.
In defence of Steve, he probably had someone shouting in his ear to run over as Owen is waiting.
Lee McKenzie was missed but as you woukd expect she was brilliant at Wimbledon and as the Para Athletics. Just glad they rolled out Louise to replace her and not Holly Samos.

What stood out to me on Saturday whilst I was in the pits was the difference in the off camera dynamic between the SKY presenters and CH4, the CH4 team were having a laugh all smiles and banter the SKY team looked miserable as fook most of the time.
Most people just ignored the Sky team but the CH4 team drew large crowds.

Supposedly on C4 on an evening. Love to know if they get more or less viewers than The Diamond League or the World Athletics's, Can't see the appeal. Channel 4 appear to be trying to back up the F1 coverage by buying in more sport but it is a bit minority compared to F1.telecat said:

I'm surprised Whisper haven't managed to persuade Brundle to jump ship and join them.
The main problem is that they could only offer him the job until the end of next year. After that C4 lose the F1 broadcast contract and it's Sky or nothing. Nobody would jump ship knowing it was only going to be a short-term gig followed by groveling back to the people you had only recently ditched.cuprabob said:

Zero chance of that happening. He did a talk and Q&A session at our campsite at Spa last year and he was asked a question about returning to terrestrial TV. His answer was that Sky have put in the investment and are in it for the long haul, so no he wouldn't be leaving Sky. Given the way F1 has been shunted around the terrestrial channels I don't blame him and anyway, in my opinion Sky is in a different league to C4 if you are really into F1, all of the practice sessions live, all of the quali sessions live, all of the races live, reports from pre season testing, midweek reports in season, Friday build up show before each race and a host of other stuff on all year round. No comparison in the commitment they show to what C4 do.

But they do have an entire dedicated F1 channel to fill with fluff, rather than trying to shoehorn the coverage into an existing channel schedule. To be fair to C4, when they are allowed to show a race live they do put in the effort - all practice sessions live, all of qualifying live, and a good amount of build-up and post-race analysis, plus a range of related ancillary programs and features. It's just a shame they're only allowed to do that for half the races.thegreenhell said:
