Thought the McLarens did a pretty good job today - 12 and 14, only a few 10ths off Q1.
Yes but this is McLaren. Multiple WCC winners McLaren. We shouldn't be having to say that 12 and 14 was a "good job, considering". Same goes for Williams - there was a time when if you weren't in a Williams then it was barely worth turning up.

Yes, I know that fortunes wax and wane, and that is true even of Ferrari, but even so it is a sad state of affairs.

I'm surprised that Ron Dennis has not "facilitated an expedient exit on life via a self-inflicted personal injury from an edged weapon".

Just watching Ted and his note book. Christ on a bike what a buffoon.
He is particularly bad at ending his interviews/chats.

Bloody hell.
If Rosberg isn't WDC this season he really isn't deserving...
And thanks to all LH's issues, if Rosberg is WDC a lot of people won't think he's deserving then either.

Really? I enjoy what he does and I know I couldn't achieve anything near what he does in his field. Nor him in mine. So I give credit where it's due.

I often wonder if his critics think they could do better than him in what he does.

Maybe. I like James Allen as well, though in his case I think his written work, radio and podcasts are better than his TV work.

What a totally crap circuit why did they not try and put some character into the circuit, dull and tepid just like Valencia was.
I almost fell asleep during Q2 (I can't normally sleep during the day so that shows how dull this was).
I hope the BTCC touring cars are on tomorrow as this is going to be a dull race to watch.

I am easily pleased. I like my commentators to be knowledgable and passionate; I can tune out their delivery, which can be a bit marmite. Ted has some great stories that would probably change some views, but they probably aren't suitable for broadcast. James is also great guy. I think sometimes they are having to broadcast in a way that clashes with their natural style and so we see something that we don't like, which I understand.

On your second point, my only comment is that PH is a generally better place with generally constructive discussion rather than argument - and I don't understand the anger that consistently comes from some posters.

I wouldn't second guess any race that has HAM starting in 10th... though P1 will be dull, I agree.

The Ferrari engine upgrade hasn't done much good has it? Still a long way behind Merc.

I get the feeling the Mercs haven't yet really run flat out, so are able to be turned up to cope with others' improvements.
Don't forget that Merc spent two tokens bringing a performance upgrade for this race that didn't need them to bring another PU into rotation. Their customers also enjoyed this 'bolt on' at this race.

Clearly, Merc felt the need to respond to Ferrari's developments. If the FP runs are to go by, Ferrari have closed the gap by about half a second per lap on race pace from last year. The thing is, they were only the 3rd best car at this race last year. Williams were the 2nd best car in race trim.

I think at most Merc could have done a 35 dead today, and we know that Merc have a potent quali mode, so all is not lost tomorrow. Bottas just needs to get his Bahrain start. Maybe Paddy/Toto can allow Williams to use their quali mode to help the bad luck they've brought up on Hamilton. wink

So Mercs probably around a second a lap quicker?
fk me - that's another competitive season over for the other teams.

If they do have to change Hamiltons engine I think it is wrong that they punish the driver. They should deduct points from the constructors. totally unfair penalising the driver.
