Having never been a Vettel and his annoying single finger fan during his Red Bull time, I was starting to warm to Ferrari Seb. His outburst and after race comments in China made him look a bit of a d1ck though. The return of teflon Vettel? It was a great pass by Kyvat on that first corner.

I'm not sure that Max is the next big thing. Sainz is just as good, just not as young.

Correction: He's nearly as good, despite his greater experience.

I thought they'd never switch them mid-season. Then as soon as it happened I was like: yes, it's so obvious, it was the only sensible think to do. Dan's speed just wasn't cutting it - he was only ever very slightly quicker than JEV and never as quick as Ricciardo. Max always a bit more impressive than Carlos.

Wow.. Didn't think it would happen this soon!

That's basically the ceiling placed on sainz and kyyat career then... I think it will be toro Rosso only or completely different team for their futures, and not a top flight team. But could be proven wrong.

I like Vestappen. I think he has shown some great attitude and has the ruthless streak that can make champions. Good luck to him. Can see Riciardo getting a bloodied nose straight away. Pressures on him if max starts performing ahead of him immediately.

Hopefully Max won't go into overdriving mode whilst trying make an immediate impression in the big team.

Vettel was clearly pantomining by playing up the anger because Marchionne was present at the circuit. It's pretty obvious to any observer that Kimi f***ed up and took them both out.

Max is very good, I think he will surprise a lot of people by how quickly he settles in (and possibly starts winning if Renault deliver on their planned upgrades).

Oh and not necessarily the end for Sainz. He is a very good driver but a bit more prone to mistakes. I think this swap was because Ricciardo is probably already on his way to Ferrari for 2017.

No way an F1 team makes a knee jerk reaction to just one race, sadly Kvyat's card was marked the moment it became probable behind the scenes that Ricciardo is on the move for next year.

Am I the only one who can't see something special in Bottas? If he was that special he'd be spanking Massa week in week out but he isn't.
The Bottas ship has sailed I think. He came close to a Ferrari opportunity, which on present form would have been a mistake for the Italians.

What about Bottas? The man is a machine, the way he puts in metronomic lap times.

I never saw anything in Bottas too, until I started plotting all these lap times.

He reminds me a lot of Kimi in that regard, with a bit more of a fire in his belly. He's got tracks that he goes well in but what stands out for me is the way he drives every stint with these tyres. I don't think I've seen any of the current drivers who can drive with so small a deviation of lap time over a stint. Some times it looks so alien when you're eyeballing the plots. Maybe it's just a subjective feeling? I don't know if it's helpful for the engineers.

I think he'll be a perfect fit for Ferrari. He's fast, will push Vettel hard in the races but take team orders well too, and generally be a safe pair of hands. What Ferrari need is someone who's thereabouts every race, not just turn up for a few races only.
It's easy to be a metronome if you are under the limit all the time. That style may play into the current garbage tyres, but next year when they should be able to push harder he may be found out as simply not quick enough.

...Thinking ahead.. Verstappen does well in Spain, out qualifies Danny Ric and sticks the RB on the podium behind the 2 resurgent Force Indias as a proud Jos looks on. At Monaco things are less good, Max's ill-advised first lap lunge at St Devote takes out both Lewis and Nico. Lauda visits the RB pit and berates Horner.

2 days later the shock announcement, MV is out and RB will promote 20 year old Pierre Gasly from their GP2 team to drive alongside Smiler. All goes well initially but at Silverstone he emulates Jody with a wildly optimistic move on the first lap, half the field are taken out. Helmut looks unhappy, there can only be one outcome...

17 year old Sergio Camara from the Red Bull Euro F3 team makes his debut at the daunting Spa circuit, its very wet and he looks out of his depth. He qualifies behind the Saubers and there can only be one outcome..

At Monza 16 year old Luis Leeds from the RB MSA Junior team takes to the circuit but with no proper down force experience is 10 seconds off the pace...

In the pits Christian Horner has an idea - "my wife is pregnant, I was reasonably quick in F3000, this may be the answer.."

But seriously - I think for F1 this is ill-conceived and seriously sad news....

Think it's extremely harsh on Kyvat, only 1/3 of those incidents were really his fault.

Nonetheless, I'm a big fan of Max, and Daniel for that matter, so will be cheering on RBR from here on out!

Lewis for the title though!

Meh... F1 has always been ruthless. Faster driver displaces fast driver in F1 shocker.

Many moves by RB have bucked the trend and they have 4 WDCs to support their strategy. Other teams can learn from it.

It will be interesting to test that hypothesis next year.

Really, what I meant was he finds the limit of the tyres and gets the best out of them in a very nonchalant way, unlike others, where they can be all over the place. The remarkable thing about him is actually the fact that this metronomic lap times are the same when he's in clear air with nobody for miles either side of him or when defending so vigorously while being hounded by a faster car. It is uncanny. You take one of his stints and everything is crowded around the median, much more than Massa for example. I find it very curious.

I'm feeling lazy so an example I'd give is his first stint in the Russian GP I posted in the GP thread. Even when pushing on, i.e. abusing the tyres, some of his stints are almost a straight line with little zig zagging and a constant deg rate. So I doubt it's specifically to do with the Pirelli tyres. I haven't followed him in lower formulae so my knowledge of him doesn't extend very far.

I'd say Pat has reason to not hype him up so much. wink

No different to any type of job these days, where if you don't perform well enough the exit door will be shown.

I was never a fan of Kvyat, and he never seemed to fit in as a RB driver.

Max will eventually settle in and beat Daniel in every race I hope. smile

I always find the anger in these forums surprising.

F1 is, and always will be, ruthless. Look at the changes at Ferrari. Look how many drivers have behaved... It's whatever is needed to win.
