I'm still here, the paddock has almost all disappeared, the Red Bull pontoon looks half dismantled, seats are half gone too!

Trucks were still being loaded at midnight last night but finding somewhere to eat wasn't do easy, apparently the locals were all worn out from working so hard (once a year can do that to you)

Got back from the Monaco Grand Prix in the early hours of Monday morning. Great three and half days of Motorsport (there was free to watch of GP2, Porsche and Formula Renault on the Friday morning).

Amazing to finally be there on a race weekend. Sunny weather until race day, but a bit of rain is no bad thing at Monaco for the race.

Prices were as expected, but nothing you wouldn't pay in London is most of the shops and restaurants. 4-5 Euros for a Baguette, 10-15 Euros for a Pizza etc. Stayed in Nice and got the train in each day, which was 7.80 Euros return and ok bout 20 minutes.

So that's another race ticked off my bucket list. Looking to do Spa next year smile

I took some photos, which can be found here....

Great pics.

Where did you sit? Would you recommend it?

Also, was getting the train straightforward or did you have to pre book or queue for ages?

I've always wanted to go so would welcome any tips.

Had breakfast there this morning!

I don't think I'd ever get bored of driving back and forth, the wind in Nice today was BONKERS but it made the sea look INCREDIBLE!

Watching the historic race now - great to see these simple, wingless cars sliding around the course.

Of those who finished the race, who completed the most overtakes? I genuinely don't know. Perez? Hulkenburg?
Might be wrong, but I *think* Hulkenberg was the only one who actually completed a pass not in the pit/ related to a crash (that finished the race)?

Not sure who he passed, but they showed Button passing someone also.

Just out of interest, do you have any idea of rough costs for the whole thing? My mates want to go, we have been to Spa, but not sure if Monaco will be quite as reasonable.. Thanks.

As a couple of other posters have said, what on earth was Justin Bieber doing stood by himself next to the podium? That really jarred.

And whilst on the whole I'm a Hamilton fan, I thought him sharing the winner's champagne with a pop brat before sharing it with his team was poor behaviour.
It looked to me as if JB was Hami's guest at the race so not entirely inappropriate.
It appears Bieber was apparently meant to do the podium interviews, but the powers that be figured out that not only did his appearance not really fit the occasion but also he probably couldn't string two coherent sentences together.

Certainly Brundle was only told he was doing the interviews mid-race, the jacket he was wearing was actually Simon Lazenbys and was sent up to the commentary box.

This would explain why Bieber was stood on the grid at the finish like a spare part.

Thanks for that.

Good old Brundle. Why don't they pick someone who knows the sport for every podium.

As you can imagine the Sky is the limit with how much you could spend, but if you book things early enough, you can do it on a reasonable budget. The biggest cost is race tickets, but as this was my first time there, I wanted to get decent grandstand seats and was at a different stand each day.

Thursday was Casino Square, Friday was a free day as it was non-F1 racing in the morning, so you could sit anywhere for free !. Friday I was in Rascasse opposite the pit entrance, then Sunday was in the big stand in Rascasse in the upper level, which also gives you a good view of the pit lane and all the F1 people coming and going. So you could do that cheaper, although I wouldn't been that keen on the general tickets which is on the hill.

Rough costs for the whole weekends (Wednesday to Sunday)

FLIGHTS TO NICE (EasyJet, Outward 14:00 Wednesday, return 22:00 Sunday = £240
RACE TICKETS (Thursday, Saturday, Sunday) = £660
HOTEL (4 Nights in Nice) = £375
TRAIN TO MONACO EACH DAY = £6 Return per day

Throw in some spending money for food and beer and you're looking at around £1500.

The thing that I liked was how close you are to the cars and you can wonder around the port and see drivers and celebs going to and from the pits to the motor homes giving autographs and photos etc. The track opens up to the public again at the end of each day, so you can walk it, stop for a beer, take some photos of Supercars and Boats.

If you can do it, I would well recommend doing it at least once. thumbup

Yes, I would 100% recommend it.

Where to sit, will depend on how much you want to spend. I did Thursday in Casino Square, Friday was a free day as it was non-F1 racing in the morning, so you could sit anywhere for free !. Friday I was in Rascasse opposite the pit entrance, then Sunday was in the big stand in Rascasse in the upper level, which also gives you a good view of the pit lane and all the F1 people coming and going.

The trains were a breeze. a 20 minute trip from Nice into Monaco for £6.00 Return a day. We bought our tickets in advance on Friday after buying the first day separately. Trains were mostly double deckers, so plenty of room and were frequent.

The train company seem to have a well worked plan to prevent large queues and pushing on platforms. The busiest day seemed to be on the Friday morning when we went in for the free GP2, Porsche and Renault racing, so I guess a lot of locals went in for that as well.

WANNACOOP

You could substitute the £660 ticket price with £80 IF you are prepared to share a steep garden slope with other fans but it looks hard work to me and I seem to remember some crazy "no re-admission" policy so once you are in........it's a long day!

It's called Sectuer Rocher

Alternatively, and I know this sounds a bit mental but you could buy tickets for Stars n Bars, see all the drivers and other team "faces" from about 10ft away as they walk past, then watch the race IN Stars N Bars (where you will see and know more than a lot of the ticketed spectators) for about £30 + lunch (but with that ticket you get €10 discount on your bill)

"Where's the tyres?" - Relive Red Bull's pit stop nightmare

FOM just uploaded this vid of Ric's 2nd pit stop from an angle I hadn't seen before. The crew were ready with Inters which is strange because Ric was already on fairly fresh inters! Don't know what RB were thinking if they wanted to lose 25 seconds to get the same tyres if inters was the plan on the 2nd stop. Surely RB had enough time to react to seeing Hamilton put on slicks in the previous lap to make a call for slicks? A terrible error from RB.
Is one of us confused? I don't think the team was ready with inters, are you confusing it with the inters they took off as he came in? the spare front jack man can be heard shouting "where's the tyres? at the start of the clip.
