The Official 2016 Monaco Grand Prix Thread **Spoilers**
Discussion
I'm starting to dislike Ricciardo quite a lot........ he seems to be turning into a more smiley version of Alonso.... aka and ego maniac.
I would like to see Kvyat bounce back and beat Sainz this weekend. Also Verstappen to carry on his good form. Ferrari look fked at the moment, although they claim they have more pace than they have shown so far (but how many times have we heard that line already this year).

No surprise at Benson's reporting though. 0.101 was dominating, but 0.6 is just leading the session. Not that the headline matters - it's only practice. Long run pace would be more interesting (which seems to be Ric - Ros by a tenth.)
Still narks that Benson's own personal fandom dominates the BBC output so far. Given that they clearly have long run pace data, why not show us all of it in a table or something? There's plenty of people in the UK that love the sport more than just avidly following the antics of 1 driver. Hell, there's 3 brits on that grid, and everyone's favourite punchbag Haryanto outpaced his "merc driver in waiting" teammate for the second time running. Then crashed. But so did Vettel, so I guess we can forgive him =)

Benson is just ridiculous, he heaps praise on his favourite 2/3 drivers and when they get beaten he pretty much minimizes their team mate's performances. As you say when one driver leads it is 'dominating' and 'stunning' but when another guy leads by a similar or bigger margin such superlatives are rarely used. It isn't proper sports journalism but more like a fanboy's blog.

Autosport, Joe Saward and James Allen are my trusted 3. Most of the rest is regurgitated garbage.

Would love Riccardo to do it but I fail to see how the pundits can build him up the way they are, I see no cause to believe that the Red Bull is suddenly good enough for pole.
As a budget yardstick, last year RB qualified 2s behind Mercedes in Spain and just 1s behind at Monaco. This year RB were under 1s behind in Spain. All to play for IMO.

I'm non-tribal these days for teams. I love seeing the Nico / Lewis battle - both superb but very different racers. Vettel needs a better car but is mostly inch perfect, etc All to play for IMO.
I was a big MSC fan to the point of missing the other racing - these days I like a good race and try to watch all of the battles through the field, and take each race on it's merits.
This weekend though I have a hankering for Max to win.

I think he has genuine pace and potential but it is being overlooked because he is merely a 'pay driver'.
5 Live Chequered Flag podcast discussed this - their view was Erricson was the only outright pay driver, but he was also performing ok. I think we are quite lucky. 4 secs from front to back in P2, we have talent on the grid. Most drivers bring an element of sponsorship with them, even WDCs...

Dunno if it's been posted but has anyone seen Massa's helmet? Surely going down as one of the ugliest helmets in F1 history. Yuck.
How come he was allowed to change it - I thought fundamental changes to helmet designs were banned.(Although I'm in favour of occasional changes).
Lots of talk about Vettle's new design for this weekend - but I've not seen it yet. Supposed to be a retro tribute with some amazing detail.
anyone else seen it yet?

You asked for a table? Here you go! So, the above is my best guess at the lap times averaged by each driver in the long runs in FP2 after disregarding the stints with the charge lap/hot lap sequence.. The data is quite noisy, so barely one or two stints with 'good' data for the full length. However, there are some things to be learned.
Whilst this track is labelled as 'low degradation' there is still some deg on most cars unlike Russia so tyres will go off.
Vettel wasn't kidding when he says they've got pace, they do show good pace on the Super Softs and Softs.
Torro Rosso do look quick, but seem slower than Mercedes/Ferrari on the Ultra Soft tyres.
Red Bull seem quite a bit slower than Ferrari/Mercedes on the Ultra Soft, however was Vettel's Ultra Soft stint was prematurely cut short? If so, Ferrari are showing good race pace on that tyre in comparison to Mercedes. Noticed that the tyres take an age to switch on, on the Ferrari.
I could barely see two proper laps from Hamilton's runs, most of it were pretty rubbish. I guess he was so concentrated on finding the limit that no homework was done for the team. Still, Rosberg did some useful work I guess. Hamilton is like that annoying kid who never concentrates in class but aces the test.
McLaren are absolutely nowhere on the Ultra Softs. They show decent pace on the Super Soft but nowhere close to the podium unless rain or some miracle happens on Sunday.
Looks like Force India might do a long second stint on the Soft and therefore become a rolling road block.
Renault/Magnussen seem to have received a good boost in speed. Looks like they'll be fighting with Haas.
All this being said, great race pace doesn't count for much here, so if Red Bull can out qualify Ferrari, they can be a nice road block to Ferrari's ambitions in the race.
The practice data are intriguing, qualifying should be good.
