Sounds like good news for the Renault teams. If we assume that this will bring RB almost in line with Ferrari on some tracks, where will it put* Renault?

*Obviously no one can know for sure until they run, but a best guess?
OK, this is very speculative but I predict that Renault will be in the mix with Force India/Haas. Their performance in Barcelona Sector 3 was better than Sauber/Manor in qualifying. Palmer was actually quicker than Magnussen in that sector. However, we have two key points of differences from extrapolating Barcelona Sector 3 performance to Monaco. 1) More Asphalt abrasiveness contributing to more tyre degradation in Barcelona 2) Softer tyre compounds. Also this upgraded engine is apparently more efficient--that means better race pace.

From early in the season I've always thought Monaco as the turning point for the WDC. If Lewis finishes anything other than 1st I can't see him winning the WDC.

Agreed, but I also think it could go the same way as 2009 where Button built up a big lead early but was defending from Red Bull for the second part of the season.

Rosberg is perfect at leading from the front but we have seen on many occasions he is not as good as Lewis when in close quarter combat. In fact downright clumsy on some occasions.

If Red Bull's new engine does deliver, they have two excellent racers who will maximise every opportunity and who are very accomplished in dicing. And one would also assume that Ferrari and Vettel will get their s**t together at some point soon.

There is a whole week to go but the forecast is saying rain for Monaco, Nice, Menton, Sospel and Grasse for next Sunday!

The best MC GP i've been to was wet, can't remember which year, 08? 10? 11?

Let's see if Rosberg messes up and reverses back onto the track this year......

But a wet track will spice it right up.

I was there in 1996 which was wet, Olivier Panis won!

Coulthard was wearing a Schumacher helmet (found out later he borrowed a spare from MS) which was confusing as hell trackside seeing what appeared to be Schumacher driving a McLaren after he had already retired the Ferrari..

Gpguide reporting Hamilton might miss Monaco due to some incident in a French nightclub?
They're also saying he was meant to be at the test day, but refused - which caused the wehrlein call up. If either bit is remotely true, it's bizarre.

I'm sure Hamilton posted a picture yesterday on Twitter or Facebook saying "great to be back in my race suit" or something along them lines. Maybe it's just rumours that he refused!

It links back to this story: http://www.corrieredellosport.it/news/formula-1/20...

But that appears to be written like a gossip magazine. So I'd give it about as much weight as a fart.

The same site has a different story stating that Wehrlein replaced Ocon not Hamilton at the Mercedes test day.

Still, it sells papers.

Might be old news, but I read that Pirelli has found a solution to monitor tyre pressures during the race and will be implementing it in Monaco.

I remember noticing a weird pattern in the previous FP2 long run lap times which I thought were inability to control tyre pressures and/or overheating the tyres by playing with the pressures to test the limits...I will keep an eye out in the Monaco long runs to see if the same thing happens to the same teams I noticed...

Was announced last week - it needed some FIA action to get it brought in IIRC and took a few months.

Was it worth the trip, the historic GP rather than the ladies scalp.
This was my 2nd time at the Historic and in lots of ways I prefer it to the regular GP, I know nothing about historic race cars but there is a really nice atmosphere, some drivers were being careful but others were giving it everything which was fantastic to see (particularly the winner of the final race who was regularly VERY sideways on the way out of Rascasse then sideways on the way into the final turn!

It was also nice to see mechanics fixing things with a hammer rather than a laptop!
Thanks, long term ambition of mine to make the classic one year. Sorry for thread derailing

I put £10 E/W on Button ( was 200-1 now 150-1 ) and Alonso ( was 150-1 now 125-1 ) at the weekend.

What's happened to Wherlein?, he was my outside bet (£10 E/W) at 3000-1 as he is now at 100-1.

^^^ Some silly story that Lewis won't be driving. So Wherlein would be in a fast seat.

Hmmm - I wouldn't actually mind that outcome But as a Hamilton fan still prefer him to be in the seat.

That'd be juicy. Popped up on my Facebook. As above though, the source wasn't credible.
