To be honest how many F1 fans are actual "deep thinking" and interested in all the nitty gritty details? The average fan is probably not, and of those that are interested in the technical details most will continue watching F1 anyway. Thus it actually makes more sense for them to target the ones who might drift away more easily. The other thing is there is a lot of places on the net providing the more detailed technical insight for those of us that want it, and we're more likely to take the time to check it out.
I'd like more technical insight, but to be honest it won't happen as they'll lose more people that way than they have now IMO.
Seems like it's a safety car start from what everyone is saying.
you're right- thats why we must endure the shouty-shouty twerp alongside the decent commentator but how many of the more casual viewers watch or if it's on pay attention to the build up and wind down though?I'd like more technical insight, but to be honest it won't happen as they'll lose more people that way than they have now IMO.

I think the overall point is that if Sky are to be the only broadcaster they need to get rid of the banality and make the show better for racing fans.
Their current approach is geared toward the football loving, beer drinking casual viewer who can't think very deeply. This won't work for long if they are the only choice, and their pitiful viewing figures already illustrate this.
C4 are quite new into it but it's quite noticable how much better the standard is compared to Sky.
Quite agree. SKY had their zenith two seasons ago, they are now struggling to maintain viewer figures [cost/content] and are, as has been pointed out above, trying to appeal to the "mass" market.Their current approach is geared toward the football loving, beer drinking casual viewer who can't think very deeply. All IMO of course.

That's true. No idea, but I guess Sky have some kind of stats on it.ZX10R NIN said:
If they do a safety car start with the conditions as they are now then F1 drivers have really gone soft.
Well, it's not up to the drivers. However it seems like the actual water is not an issue, but switching the tyres on is the problem. So then surely it's a tyre thing - that they're not able to deal with the water and the relatively cold temperatures here? Not watching live but will listen to first 5 mins. Rain will certainly add to Monaco which is usually a complete and utter borefest.
For me this has to be the WDC turning point. Lewis must finish ahead of Nico otheriwise I fear it's gone.
So with you until lap 2 then it's media blackout for me til 5:45
Good luck Lewis.

I would love to get paid millions to do something I love and be able to behave the way he does.... he has total disdain for anything other than driving the car... amazing how he gets away with it in the modern era of F1 and all the other PR trained drivers. I'm really disappointed at the safety car start as it spoils the best part of the race IMO. I know they will say it is a safety issue but come on, this is racing... if they aren't allowed to race in the wet then why bother starting it at all. The first 15 laps are basically going to be follow the leader.

Arghhhh! Starting behind a safety car. This is not how how to make F1 more exciting.
On the other hand a massive crash at the start and losing 10 competitors wouldn't make a great race either...Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
