Whatever credibility Hamilton had was totally lost in that one exchange with Bieber!
That really was painful.
It was painful, but I take the long view - if those few seconds add US interest and sponsorship to a team then I'll accept it.

If Lewis wants to retire into a music career, then saving Biebers blushes (what would he have done if Lewis didn't acknowlege him/give him champagne? I think everyone else ignored him?) might have a payoff in a few years.

Though didnt they do some grid walk with models last year? That sounds just as bad. Iirc it was when Ron got upset at Cara Delevigne (of a gazillion instagram followers) sitting in his car.

It's worth pointing out that LH's tyre strategy only worked because DR's pit crew were asleep. As always with this funny game an amount of luck (or misfortune for your opponent) is often required to prosper, no matter the level of your talent.

You could argue that Danny only had the lead that RBR squandered because Nico was so slow and held everyone up.

Lewis and Nico quotes from Mercedes Facebook

Lewis Hamilton: "This might be the best place ever to have win number 44 – it’s been eight years since I won here! What a special day… truly one of the hardest races I can ever remember having. To stay in the zone, not make any mistakes and come out on top is just unbelievable. I walk along here every day and think about the greats who have won this race – the likes of Fangio, Moss, Hill and Senna – and it’s a truly amazing feeling to have my name added to that list again. It’s very unusual that I’m able to take any credit for a strategy decision – but when the team first asked me to box, I could see the track drying and my tyres still felt pretty good. So I told them all that and they said to stay out, which worked out great. I just carried on looking after the tyres – picking up the pace a bit when I saw what times people were starting to do on the intermediates as it dried out. I was matching their times at that stage so I thought “I could actually hold onto this until it’s dry”. Staying in that window was really tricky, though, as the first two sectors were almost dry. When I came out on the slicks it was like driving on ice. It was tough knowing how hard to push and we came out very close together. If he hadn’t had a bad stop I wouldn’t have been ahead. But these things happen for a reason – and today the reason was that 44th win."

Nico Rosberg: "In racing you have good days and bad days. Today was a bad day for me. I didn’t have the pace to fight for the win and we need to understand why. It was possibly a brake issue – but I don’t know for sure yet. I didn’t feel like I could push to the limit at the beginning of the race on the wet tyres. It was a simple decision to accept the request from the team to let Lewis past – even if it hurt very much in that moment. I was very far off the pace and Lewis quite clearly had the speed to win for the team. We’ve always had that rule – if you’re ahead and the other guy has a chance to win, you give him that chance. From there it just didn’t go my way. I had a tricky pit stop and was held in the box because there was traffic in pit lane. So the cars were just streaming by and suddenly I was down to sixth. Once you’re behind in Monaco that’s it – you’re stuck. At the end, Nico [Hülkenberg] had a lot more rubber left on his Soft tyres and my UltraSofts were finished, so I lost temperature in the drizzle and lost grip, which let him past too. That kind of summed it up, really. I’m massively disappointed with today – I really wanted to win my home race again but it didn’t work out. It’s been tough and I’ll probably need a day to take it all in – but then I’ll shift my focus to Canada and a chance to come back stronger."

It's quite impressive what Rosberg did today letting Hamilton through. Compare Sauber's infants squabbling over 13th - Rosberg has a championship at stake.

And if he loses it by 19 points this year he'll have today to think about for a long time. Problems or not he shouldn't have moved over imo.

they'll win the constructors championship anyway so why favorising any of the drivers?! let them battle on their own...

I would love to see the onboard of Hamilton's outlap on the Ultra Softs. He was 11 seconds slower than his next lap while Ricciardo was busy losing 9 seconds to Hamilton whilst in the pits...it seems both Red Bull and Hamilton were competing on not winning the race at that point!

Maybe they were trying to avoid frustrations from either driver preventing both cars from finishing. The Sauber incident may have subsequently vindicated the call. It was clear fairly early on that NR and his car were not going to be competitive today.

With hindsight Perez must be annoyed to finish only 13.8s behind at the end as he only did 8 laps on intermediate tyres before pitting for slicks.
Are you on drugs?

Perez is/was super dooper happy to finish third there.
Yes he's happy to finish 3rd but if he had stayed on the full wets for a few laps longer...
He'd have still finished third!

Lewis would have more than made up the gap by being quicker on the inters than he was. His master stroke was getting track position ... And paying Red Bull to watch TV instead of getting some tyres ready. If my team ever called me in and weren't ready I'd be livid. And I'm not close to F1!

Although he won last year, Rosberg was demolished by Hamilton at Monaco before the balls up (he only closed up due to safety car) and the situation was only going to be exacerbated in mixed conditions today.

I made this point earlier. I would love to see that gap properly broken down into Ricc going faster, Lewis going slowly and time not stationery in the pit lane.

Interesting race. Gutted for Danny ric, and love that Ham effectively removed his right to moan about the previous weekend. If DR had kept his toe in, they'd both have DNF'ed.
