Anyone got the Yuneec Q500 4K?

I'm considering going Yuneec but I want to wait a while to see how the Typhoon H pans out. Yuneec's customer service sounds like second to none which is a major sway for me. By the sounds of it DJI are hopeless.
By the sounds of it Drones for less send from the US but don't tell you. I dunno how that affects warranties.

It's certainly an impressive drone to fly, with all you need 'out of the box'. It's only just come out though, so there are a couple of known issues that should be addressed in a firmware update - specifically the camera can take ages to connect to the base station and 120fps footage has encoding problems. Other than that, it's smooth, quite smart and (so far) reliable.
I'm not sure how to take the reports on the forums. There seem to be a number of people who buy a drone 'blind', skim through the manual and then fly it into a tree on their first flight. They then get angry on the forums. Go figure. If you've just spent that much money on a flying camera, I would really recommend taking baby steps and reading up everything you can about your specific model. Early on there was also a suggestion that DJI were paying people to post bad reports on any Typhoon reviews.
It's worth being clear that you'll never get 'broadcast quality' from these things - you need to spend at least three times as much to get on that level. It gets a bit heated when people compare models, but overall I get the impression that the DJI has better auto video modes (footage that you can 'just use') while the Typhoon has more sophisticated flight controls (you can pre-record and play back flight paths with camera control, and there is a small pocketable controller that the drone will automatically follow and film).

That looks pretty impressive, especiallly considering you're just starting out with it.My main interest is still rather than video .... have you taken any still images? Be interested to see what the quality is like.

If you have a DSLR, the image quality is... not that. Unless you buy a drone costing three times as much, you're stuck with a fixed lens, small sensor camera. The results are more phone quality than DSLR. That doesn't mean you can't get good pictures, but you definitely have to work harder at it. As a UK Yuneec Dealer, I would say ignore 99% of YouTube and Facebook comments on the Typhoon H.
Someone, somewhere has gone all out to create a massive internet smear campaign. It doesn't take a genius to work out who would be behind such a smear campaign either.
We've been noticing alot of negative reviews from bloggers, vloggers and someone has paid for Google Adwords to link to these biased reviews. Again, it doesn't take a genius to figure out who would benefit from paying to link to a biased bad review. Certainly not the blogger/vlogger.
Generally Google Adwords are used by companies who are selling a product not by bloggers who then slate a product.
Seems it's the way Chinese businesses operate though.

I've only seen good reviews for the Yuneec typhoon h, I would have loved one but my budget only stretched to the phantom 3 Advanced. I think they're a better flying machine than the P3/4 and they have some nice features like Team mode flying, a 360 degree gimbal, the Wizard (a tiny hand remote you can fly with that that camera automatically tracks), and RealSense (fully autonomous flight with obstacle avoidance). They're not actually that much bigger, and the modular design makes repairs and replacement that much easier. The properly integrated controller is a much nicer design than having to rely on your tablet/phone balanced on the top of the DJI thing.Horses for courses though - it's good to have a real choice in the market, even if DJI appear to be rather too aggressive about promoting their product.
I've been flying my Q500 4K for about 10 months now. All in all it's a great bit of kit but with some obvious limitations as Tuna has alluded to above. As a starter drone it's ideal; on the whole it's very stable and with GPS enabled pretty....erm, sedate, especially with the speed control set more towards tortoise rather than hare. Disabling GPS certainly offers a lot more speed, but it rapidly drifts in anything above the most gentle of breezes and you need to keep your wits about you. This is true for just about any drone though.
There's now a good amount of support from 3rd parties for range extending anntenae, carbon frame kits, higher capacity batteries etc. I've only heard good things about Yuneec UK's support which thankfully I've had no need to make use of (a few grumbles from the other side of the Atlantic however).
The Typhoon H does look pretty good, and while the camera has been revised to the CGO3+ version, I don't know how much better it really is - I was all excited when it was first announced and seriously condiered pre-ordering, but decided to skip the H and haven't looked at end user reviews too much.
I was considering selling my Q500 4K as I'm moving up to bigger craft that will carry a DSLR, but actually think I'll hold on to it as a backup/leisure/let-friends-have-a-go flyer.
