Rosberg going a shade more aggressive with the tyres, as are Ferrari.

Could McLaren be accused of being a little unambitious?
I had to look back at the tyre graph there as when I read your post, I thought maybe McLaren had replaced their choice of ultra softs with the same number of spare engines. wink

Can anybody recommend an F1 podcast? There don't seem to be any Austria previews out there yet...
I've recently started listening to an F1 podcast, only tried one so far... It's called Alt+F1, its giantbombs F1 podcast, been quite entertaining and they have a preview episode for every race, usually goes up on Wednesday.

"Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton will move onto the last of his allocated Mercedes turbochargers and MGU-H units for 2016 in the Austrian Grand Prix."

It is sad that the Championship may well be decided by Lewis' unreliability of engines this season....

Sounds rather like sour grapes I know, but I rather hope Nico has some technical problems as well to balance it up and make the season turn on driving...

Probably too late though, as Nico has so many units in hand he's not going to suffer - he can afford to do a few precautionary swaps.

At this rate, Hamilton will struggle to come third in the Championship

Mercedes full stop will struggle now that the FIA has changed when they measure the tyre pressures.

Could still be a Red Bull / Ferrari year.

Dr Z , if it`s known, can you add the Mandatory tyre to the first post for each race please ? Just for completeness. Unless you already have and I missed it whistle

My understanding is they have changed some of the outer kerbs to try and control drivers exceeding track limits. It gets ridiculous sometimes, particularly Turn 1 and the exit of Turn 8.

Should be a closer race than Baku. i`m looking forward to it smile

I think its Mercedes fault for boasting at start of season that they where planning on only using 4 engines per car! (i guess Nico may do still)

With 13 races to go, he is surely going to need at least another 2? (more if he has more issues!)

I think I must have missed this - how does this impact Mercedes more than the others?

Do we read that as 'all the others are broken' or do we read it as 'he moves onto the last new set. For the rest of the season he'll have to make do with used components'. I'm thinking it's the latter...so not as bad as the headline might suggest?

I read it as the others are mileage or time-expired. If they were still usable the logical thing to do would be to save them for the tracks which are very power-dependent like Monza, Silverstone, Spa etc.

I think he's expecting to have to start from the back at 2 GP's this season. I'm guessing the team will be looking at the remaining races to figure out when is best to do that.

Im sure they didn't stop using them because they were mileage or time expired. The units ha had available were surely meant to last him the length of the season.

Got it from a German website - Germans are paranoid that any rule change is designed to knacker Merc but the theory is that by testing the tyre pressure before the wheel goes on the car & not when it's done a warm up lap first Merc's advantage will be greatly reduced.

Just updated the OP. Mandatory tyre is a choice between Super Soft and Soft for this race.

Got F1 Access for this month and following live timing, Merc look mighty quick...managed to screenshot Rosberg's quick lap on 10 lap old Super Softs...purple sectors 1 & 2. Quicker than last year's pole lap sectors! Qualifying laps should be bloody quick.

Vettel was on Ultra Softs, and Ferrari look decent in S1 and S3..so there is some hope yet. Ric's lap was also on Super Softs.

I like the new on-board camera on Vettel's car, crystal clear, almost eye level (just behind his head on the left) and it doesn't appear to be foreshortening the view either.

I wonder if Hamilton will pick up another reprimand for his spin across the gravel and back on track in front of the Haas, which then spun avoiding him?

Racing incident, surely?
