Good that it's 'confirmed' though (in the eyes of the media and everyone else in the paddock, if nothing else), means he will get a proper send-off this weekend and can crack on with his other stuff without the constant questions for the next 12 months. It's pretty clear from Jenson's tweets and interviews this week etc that he has basically retired barring something probably quite unfortunate for one of his team mates.

Nice interview on the F1 site as well: https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/interviews/2016...

and this one's a corker: http://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/article/jenson-button...

Corker.... I particularly like this;

Jenson said:
10. My favourite team-mate of all time…
Is Rubens Barrichello. We spent four years together and we went through some very difficult times together. I mean, at one point my team didn’t exist anymore, at the end of 2008. But in 2009 we drove together at Brawn and that was a special time. And he was also the best team-mate in terms of setting up a car. Fernando is good, but Rubens was at another level. Let me put it this way, you can see why Michael Schumacher wanted him as his team-mate for so long.”

It's a great interview, I had no idea that drivers regularly exchange helmets after a race.

On the Rubens point, Ross Brawn basically said exactly the same thing in his (awesome) Motorsport podcast a few months back.

Ah, thanks for reminding me about the Brawn podcast, I keep forgetting to watch that.

Its about time he retired.. very over rated and lucky to win a title... 17 years in F1 and won 15 races thats on average less than one a season? I would put Rosberg in the same league.. very lucky to win this year (if he does) and will be very unlikely to win again...

Credit to a VERY good f1 driver.

All said and done, it's about time he left, he's had a long and successful career (afew more than he should imo, he'll probably agree).
It's about time the seat was given to a young, hungry son of a billionaire bringing with him millions in sponsorship.

A little unfair to him, since of those 17 years he spent 6 at BAR-Honda (midfield team at best) and has spent 6 at Mclaren (during their sliding backwards to the rear of the pack years - no wins since 2012 even with Alonso, probably the best driver on the grid). Along with two at a uncompetitive Benetton/Renault. So really only 2009 had any consistent chance to win races (in 2000 at Williams it was the Schumacher era and he was the youngest driver on the gird, so to win would be the same as Verstappen's win in Spain, which was a fluke).

He managed to drag the McLaren to two wins in 2010, three in 2011 and three in 2012 which isn't a bad showing. During the same years Hamilton managed to get 3, 3 and 4 wins. But - Button outscored Hamilton in 2011 and was only two points away in 2012. Even in 2010 he was only 26 points adrift. Whereas Rosberg has been outscored by Hamilton every year (except this one) by 18, 67 and 59 points.

Agreed. I think the fact that he's been paid to drive every year he's been in F1 shows that he's greatly valued by the various teams.

Also agreed. Remarkably mealy-mouthed.

So come on guys, I know for a fact there are some macca employees on this board, Jenson was godlike in a kart anyone who saw him was in awe, yet Lewis was faster in an F1 car lap for lap, can anyone expand on who what and why?

I seem to recall a certain Canadian WDC having a similarly low opinion of him... until the new boy started showing him up! laugh

Just a wild stab in the dark... Lewis is better?
