I can't find a specific article other than a couple of mentions from 2014 and a line or two in other articles about other manufacturers doing GTE cars.

When he was speaking to David and Mark, and subsequently Ted on his notebook.

He sounded pissed (drunk) and to be honest a bit of a plum. Almost as if the nice respectful PR inclined chap was finally cast aside.

Which is a shame, cause I don't think he's a helmet, but he should have thought a little harder.
Really? I thought his C4 interview was the most 'real' thing I've seen in the F1 paddock all season, great fun. In fact I was thinking what an asset he will be to whatever series he ends up joining/making guest appearances at.
I COMPLETELY agree with you. I took the Ted's notebook with humour with which it was clearly intended. And that which Ted took it too.
20 years of stress bleeding off.. I can forgive him.

Anyway, F1 drivers are lightweights... all that training and disciplined eating (no booze)

It was fun; and he's a natural in front of the camera but I agree that there was an edge to it all; a small touch of bitterness perhaps? I wouldn't blame him.

I bet JB is regretting saying he's done with F1!

You thinking of the seat at Mercedes?

Very much doubt it. He's been in F1 for 16 years, won a world title, and by his own admission he's had enough and is looking forward to trying new race series.

Not sure why a seat becoming available at Mercedes would suddenly change his mind, there's no guarantee that Mercedes will even be the strongest team next year either.

Pascal Wehrlein to take Nico's seat - JB to help Manor (test/development role/ if not a paid drive). Behind the scenes still maintains a good relationship with Mercedes (ex Honda team) and McLaren tie-in with Manor's development may keep him in it for another year or two?

Apparently Wehrlein has blotted his copy book according to a number of reports. Not quite sure "how" but Ocon is supposed to be the rising star.

Indeed. Wasn't it Wehrlein who had to be told 3 or 4 times to turn off his engine when beached? I don't think that kind of disobedience did him any favours.

Ocon was confirmed at Force India and with Pascal being the reserve it made/makes sense. Unless MB/Daimler work out a deal to switch them.

My thought was Alonso to replace Nico, and Jenson to stay on.

Dr Jenson Button if you please. Today JB received an Honorary Engineering degree from the Chancellor of the University of Bath.

Someone (Joe Saward?) suggested it was his attitude that has caused concern as well as his drop off in races.

Plus in the last race he escorted Ocon off the track when Ocon was on the better strategy (as we know not being a team player is frowned upon by Mercedes) which hasn't endeared him to Manor let alone Mercedes.

Considering that JB won the title with Brawn, who are now Mercedes, he must already have a relationship with the staff there. He's also known to get along well with Hamilton. His image is good, but different from Hamilton, so it broadens the target market from a marketing standpoint. Merc could do a lot worse.

I've always had a reasonable amount of time for JB and have also thought he could make a good stop-gap teammate for Lewis for a season; however, the doubt I'd have would be around his motivation and desire to do it. Looking and listening to him after his retirement in Abu Dhabi he didn't appear to be a bloke who wanted to get back and compete in an F1 car again; perhaps that was a front (because he didn't think he'd ever have the chance) but once you've got yourself into a mindset of "that's me finished" how easy would it be to do a U-turn, especially so quickly? Not actually convinced he'll get a call from Mercedes anyway (highly unlikely IMO).

JB would be mad to go up against Hamilton again. Been there, done that, proven he was competitive. But I just don't think he has the desire to compete at that level anymore.

We'd probably all love him to come back, have a great season and take a 2nd title - but the reality is it just won't happen as Mercedes will favour their star investment.
