Sky F1 - worth it?

Ah thats fair enough, essentially you are paying for it. I have the same deal.
I'm glad, because paying out for sky sports just to get the f1 channel would make it a bit more difficult to justify.
On non CH4 live races, I always watch with a 30 minute delay just so I can skip some of the bull***t, I genuinely find it so tedious.I'm glad, because paying out for sky sports just to get the f1 channel would make it a bit more difficult to justify.
FWIW- I have SkyF1 through the legacy deal with the HD pack.
Firstly- if you have a 30+" TV and aren't watching everything possible in HD you are missing out a bit IMO, it really is fantastic, especially if you watch any US shows which always seem to look far worse in SD than British/European sourced content.
(As an aside- was watching TdF Highlights last night on ITV4HD- eye bleedingly sharp and stunningly shot footage, if you want to see how sport should be shown on TV they really do a good job IMO)
Having watched most of the BBC, ITV, SKY and C4 coverage for the last 30+years I rate SKY F1 as very good... if they ditched Lazenby (and muffled Croft's mic) it could be Excellent but he grates on my ears and eyes, although I have to reluctantly concede he is fractionally better than when they started (evidentially you can teach an old dog new tricks!)
The uncomfortable elephant in the room is whether SKY kill the legacy deal and demand SKY Sports membership off me to keep it... at current prices that would see me cancel SKY and use some kind of digital thievery to watch.
IMO SKY would make more money if they prices all channels individually and you could pick what you want, I would likely pay a couple more quid every month to gain Eurosport and Discovery (for example) but don't want 10 channels of hooligans/football just to get one decent channel.

I've had Sky HD for ages so I have also had Sky F1 as part of the package. Generally I think it's okay but a couple of things do get on my nerves.
Johnny 'sort of' Herbert is a waste of space, adding nothing of value to the coverage. He should go.
Ted Kravitz seems to have an arrangement which allows him to chip in every five minutes throughout the race whether or not he has anything to say. Most of the time he's either repints ng something which Brundle or Croft have already said, getting the wrong end of the stick or talking rubbish while something interesting is happening on track. He should speak on air only when he has something genuinely germane to say. Kravitz reached his nadir during the Austrian GP with his guff about Mercedes having a moral responsibility to pit Rosberg.

Another HD Legacy Pack viewer here.
Will I be paying for the sports channels when Sky axe it for me? No.. I will be cancelling my Sky sub though, it's all we hang onto it for. Will be happy to swap to the NowTV method and pay for the weekend passes or whatever they are at the time.
The coverage is good IMO and I like the team as a whole.

TBF was that his opinion or was he refering to mercs own policy of never, ever, ever letting the 2nd car on track have a pit strategy/undercut that so much as looks like it might threaten the lead car even when 2nd car desperately needs tyres and is is losing time to other competitors.Because that policy to protect the lead cars bubble thats been used against no 44 several times seemed peculiarly absent that day. That they might try to mitigate it by strategising a pass for lewis, whether you me or ted feel is personally right or wrong or exciting, would seemed fitting and somewhat more CONSISTENT treatment of their drivers.
Sorry for going o/t but theres a lot more going on here than just teds opinion I believe

You are correct but Sky has a way of sensationalising everything as typical tabloid media does. Far more interesting than all the above would have been if Toto had decked Ted which appeared to be on the cards for a brief moment. That would have been the highlight of Sky's coverage this year Because that policy to protect the lead cars bubble thats been used against no 44 several times seemed peculiarly absent that day. On a serious but related point, it is noticable that interviewees are a bit reticent when talking to Sky and far more open and chatty talking to C4. I think this could be related to the above point. Note this Sunday where Lewis basically ignored Herbert pre-race whilst Lee always gets very good interviews out of him. I think Hamilton also made brief reference to Herbert making negative comments about him in the post race interview. It was quick but certainly mentioned.

Sky HD Legacy pack here too. If they axe it, we'll be getting rid of Sky completely which would be a shame as I still believe it's the most user friendly of all the formats.
But that's an aside, I do actually enjoy their coverage. Ted I could personally shoot, but I have a lot of time for Damon Hill, Anthony Davidson, I don't mind Herbert, the reporting team is good and I actually don't mind Lazenby these days-he's definitely grown into the job (gawd he was crap to start with mind!).
I do think Martin Brundel is in danger of disappearing up his own arse however.
I quite fancy watching the C4 coverage one week however, Webber I'm sure will be good though not sure if it'll be good enough to offset David Coulthard.

With contract expiring next month, today was the day I could call up to serve notice. I had also heard today was the day they started offering deals on Q. Long story short I'm now on the full Sky Q package for £47.75 a month, £30 up front for the 2TB UHD box. 4K F1 next year!!!
Got to admit I am tempted by this as well - full HD and boxes in two bedrooms as well as the lounge sound good to me..jb2410 said:
For anyone thinking of cancelling sky in the hope of getting an offer of a cheaper package, the next three races are live on c4 too so it gives sky until October to come crawling back with an offer..
Only the next two are live. Singapore is a highlights programme.Channel 4 cannot have more than two live races in succession as part of their contract with FOM. Likewise Sky cannot have more than two exclusively live races in succession.
However in 2015 the BBC were able to show three live races in succession due to the cancellation of the German Grand Prix, which was a decision taken some months after the live/highlights timetable for 2015 had been published.
