I was discussing this subject, not specific to Rosberg, with a German friend of mine recently when we were talking about drivers. Not my opinions.
He told me:
Schumacher - worshipped in Germany still. Working class background, loved by all Germans. The lean Merc years did nothing to change the reverence people had for him.
Vettel - not liked so much in Red Bull era but much more popular now with Ferrari. Not worshipped like Schumacher though.
Hulkenberg - Very popular, especially after Le Mans.
Rosberg - not considered German, Monaco rich kid.
If this is a general opinion I'm sure the billion dollar Mercedes marketing machine would be aware of them.

Look, I know this might generate some obnoxious replies, even worse that those directed at a poster who says something not nasty about Hamilton, but here goes.
Christian was on the radio on Ch4 and later came to the presenters later. This will sound really weird but I'm warming to him.
I completely agreed with him during his interview on sky regarding radio rules.Christian was on the radio on Ch4 and later came to the presenters later. This will sound really weird but I'm warming to him.
I felt rather queasy after!
Ref the last few pages of squabbling, I think Nico constantly looks for approval to be honest, the way he carries out interviews I find very odd. He's a very good driver, I don't think he's a great racer.
Anyone want to make any bets were Mclaren end up in the WCC by the end of the season ? I reckon their target is going to be P4, currently held by Williams.

“Will, man, you can’t let that get to you. You know he’s only joking, right? Just fire it straight back at him. He’ll love it. He’s really a fun guy… honestly. But if you don’t give it back to him he’ll think he’s got the high ground. He loves a challenge.”
The next day Nico sent some pithy comment my way, so I turned around, flipped him the bird and winked. “fk you Rosberg.”
He looked taken aback. I broke out in a cold sweat. This was not behavior becoming of the championship’s press officer. Had I just managed to ruin any relationship I might have had with the man destined to be our first champion?
A smile broke across his face, and we never had a cross word again. Indeed, we started to get on really well. At the end of the season I received a package to my home, from Monaco. In it was an ART team shirt, signed by Nico, thanking me for my support. I had it framed, and it remains one of my most treasured pieces of memorabilia from my career in racing.

I've known a few like him, trust me it's no special personality trait, it's just a house and garden conniving little turd pushing the boundaries for whatever he can get untill you let him know you're on to his game. Which is why mercedes need to check him once in a while rather than pander to his ego constantly.
Like it or not, it's part of the selfish, "win at all costs" psyche that marks out many a modern sportsman/woman who want to excel at their chosen sport.
Beating your team mate is the first goal of any racer, unfortunately Nico gave it his best shot, and ultimately looks to have come off second best. He's clearly a sore loser, but then there's another old adage that springs to mind "Show me a good and gracious loser and I'll show you a failure."
I'd respond in a fuller fashion, but I've neither the time or inclination to get embroiled in protracted internet forum exchanges these days

no.But I believe people who use the internet use Google when they have such queries...
ok
I think he's what marketing people call "toxic".

He's not the first F1 driver to behave like a spoilt brat, and I doubt he'll be the last. Love or loath Senna, Schumacher, Mansell and a good few Moto GP riders (along with a couple of WRC drivers too) they've all displayed questionable personality "traits".

Bless him, for all his skills in the car, our Nige was absolutely horrible sometimes out of it. I found this scene hilarious when I first saw it and still do now with his whinging Brummie accent. I'd actually find it quite entertaining if Rosberg threw a complete wobbly like this and went apesh*t, and people would respect him for dropping the facade...

it's not just about the brattishness though, as you say many exhibit that and it exists alongside a raft of other traits. It's more having a code and taking ownership of what you do and being honest about it even when you fail to meet your own standards. Senna and rossi for all their faults exhibit this, on the other end of the scale you have schumacher and I think prost who allways though they could out-clever the whole world and couldn't see how much their own st stunk to many of the people.Like it or not, it's part of the selfish, "win at all costs" psyche that marks out many a modern sportsman/woman who want to excel at their chosen sport.

No I don't think 'here' has sunk to a new level, someone asked "does anyone like him" I merely pointed out he has a fan base...so the answer is yes there are people out there that do.
har har, sorry my comment wasn't really aimed at you, but rather at the chap who could be bothered researching this and posting his findings And, of course, you are correct sunkdeadslow said:

I continue to find it astonishing that Merc are considering writing him another contract.
