Whenever I see Steve Jones I can't help but think of this

https://youtu.be/-jzXZieOaLQ

What is he doing hosting an F1 show for fks sake. Than again F1 is no more so perhaps it shouldn't matter.

I think the C4 coverage is excellent... I'm not a fan of the current 'era' of F1 but I can't fault C4's coverage. Personally, I think Steve Jones does well and has a good rapport with the other hosts..

C4 is very good, so much better than the gloomfest which is Sky coverage with charmless Herbert and boring Hill.

I wish Steve Jones would stop going on about which commentators are commentating at upcoming races. I'm not watching for the commentators. I'm not going to miss a race because a particular commentator won't be there. It should be all about the sport.

I prefer their live coverage to SKY's, which I watch when C4 is highlights only.

I really don't get Steve Jones, but if younger viewers do, then that's fine.

Eddie is OK, Susie is getting better. Both of them can draw in a higher calibre of interviewee.

Mark is superb, his irreverence is a hoot and makes SKY's team (except A Davidson) look very tired. He and DC get the interviews in the pitlane leaving MB talking to the grid girls.

I think if Susie could give the impression of being a bit more impartial she would be even better. She has a lovely demeanour on camera but it was noticable how she dodged the question of Austria. She clearly has to be careful expressing her opinion on controversial issues involving Mercedes.

She did make some cracking comment about knowing about dealing with grumpy people over the past week.

I thought the bit where Coulthard and Webber were interviewing Button was brilliant, and for what it's worth, I think Steve Jones is a good anchor and link man.

He's a "media child". People who are brought up in the world of media think that the reason watch something is because of the "media personalities" and not the subject matter.

Indeed, they are so bereft of knowledge of the subject matter themselves, that they are completely unable to understand that other people may be watching because the subject itself is what they are interested in, not the people presenting it.

TV has been going down this route over the past two decades or so and it is becoming very tiresome.

Let the subject speak for itself.

Perhaps a little unfair Eric, he is trailing the next race to get people to tune in and has to add a bit of padding to stop it being a simple "Tune in next week to see if Hamilton or Rosberg wins this time".

Frankly, I'm tired of the dumbing down of mainstream media. They do operate on the principle that the audience is too thick to appreciate the "worth" of what they are watching and constantly have to hype up everything with false jeopardy and false excitement. They are scared stiff that the viewers will get bored after ten seconds and start channel surfing.

In reality, they are not just channel surfing, they are turning off.

I find it insulting, to be honest.

So is there a future plan to drop free to air 'Terristerial' TV coverage in the future .. or could there perhaps be another intervention by C4 if they see it as profitable.

It it does get dropped - I can see this as the final nail in the Bernie F1 coffin, with a serious rating drop amoungst real F1 fans.

Really enjoyed the C4 coverage, certianly as good as Jake in his heyday at the BBC.

I think Steve Jones is a pretty good anchor, his knowledge isn't quite there yet, but he's clearly a big fan of the sport and his enthusiam is infectious. When he's got DC, MW and SW to lean on it doens't really matter that he isn't an expert, that's what they are there for.

The only person that I'm not sure about is Karun Chandhok. He always looks slightly uncomfortbale on camera, and his 'insight' generally tends to be stating the bloody obvious.

Of course there are aspects of modern TV that are much better - definition, sound, extent etc. But the actual style of presentation is very much aimed pretty low in their assumption of audience intelligence or just interest.

I agree. BBC Horizon is the obvious example for me. Compare an episode from the '80's when you got 40 minutes of fact and explanation with a more recent program. Ten minutes of what we're going to tell you, fifteen (padded) minutes telling you exactly the same thing, another fifteen (padded) minutes repeating it in case you missed it, ten minutes telling you what you've been told and ten minutes telling you what you'll see next week. So no need to watch next week. I don't bother any more.
Brian Cox's latest is better but even he strings it out a bit!

Same with movies. Compare the quality of ''The Parallax View'' or ''The Conversation'' or even as an action film ''The French Connection'' with all the mindless crashbangwallop rubbish of today.

Every time I have been to the cinema to watch a highly rated film in recent years has been an utter disappointment.

That's because we is more thicker than what we was.

It frustrates and infuriates me, too. I suspect we're not alone, though in the minority.

I honestly don't think people are any more smart or dumb than they ever were. What IS different is the calibre of people in the media who make assumptions about us.

I disagree, I think Karun has given some good technical info while Susie Wolff has said nothing of value at all.
