PistonHeads Sunday Service: Fast Car Festival 31/7

Donington's Fast Car Festival to host our next Sunday Service

It seems like just last weekend that we were focusing on the excellent Skoda Sunday service ... because it was. Anyway, here at PH we like to make hay whilst the sun shines so we're hosting another of our legendary Sunday Services on July 31 at Donington Park.

This is not your usual Sunday Service as we'll actually be inside the Fast Car Festival taking place over the course of the weekend. We've only got space for 100 cars, but it is going to be well worth it for those attending. Not only will you get free entry to the Fast Car Festival for you and a passenger (worth £17 each) but we also have two completely free track sessions that are exclusively ours! That's right, you are coming to the Sunday Service for free, getting entry into the show for free AND getting a free run out on the famous Donington Park GP circuit with other PHers ... for free!!!

As usual the PH team will be on hand to talk cars and we'll have our merchandise stand set up so you can buy some swag. There will also be plenty of opportunities to buy breakfast and refreshments on site throughout the show.

If you'd like to know more about the Fast Car Festival, have a look at the website here.

All you need to do is sign up on the calendar, and indicate in the notes if you want to take your car out on track.

There are two important things to note BEFORE you sign up.

Only put your name down if you're 100 per cent, definitely, absolutely, positively going to come. We've worked really hard on this Sunday Service and each place is valuable. We will take an extremely dim view of ANYONE who removes their name from the list after Thursday July 28 or doesn't turn up. It is selfish and extremely unfair, especially given the value of the event and the small allocation that we have.

If you want to take your car on track, please indicate this to us in the notes section of the calendar. We only have 60 spaces available, but we expect that this will be plenty as out of the 100 cars not everyone will want to venture out onto the GP circuit. If we do have more than 60, we'll simply draw the names out of a hat to allocate the spaces. Again, please do not say you want a track space unless you're sure that you and your car are 100 per cent up to it!

If all of that is understood and you are in no doubt that you can make it, then please proceed to the calendar here and sign up.

Date: July 31 2016
Cost: Free, though we'll accept Haribo, biscuits or beer if you're feeling generous
Start time: 0900h
Finish: 1730h
Total places available: 100
Address: Donington Park, Castle Donington, Derby DE74 2RP

I didn't want to put track time - as I don't know insurances and things like that. I'd love to, but it's not my car in the end.

This sounds brilliant.

And I've spotted this early enough to get inside the top 100!

But I'm on holiday.

And now slightly gutted.

Are helmets available to hire on the day for track time? There's no mention either way on the web page.

ETA: Sod it, it's about time I bought one!

Signed up! But most likely not going on track unless anyone can point out a TD insurer who can do 1/2 sessions as opposed to a whole day's insurance? smile

I've got the Sparco X1 from Tweeks, only £60 so a bargain really! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sparco-Club-X1-ECE-Appro...

I've a question please.....do you know if we can have 2 drivers for this i.e. one per session and how far apart time-wise are the sessions? - I'm thinking of bringing SWMBO and thought I'd see if we could do a track session each as she hasn't driven the current car on track as yet (assuming we're selected from the 'lucky dip' of course). Cheers biggrin

Hi,

I'm afraid that the 60 spaces are split over 2 sessions, each with 30 spaces. On this basis it would take a LOT of people to drop out for you to get on both sessions... But saying that stranger things have happened!

I'm also not sure about the number of drivers allowed per session, but I'd imagine you'd keep it at 1 or you'll waste a lot of the session changing over.

Hope that this helps,

JD

Got to go some to beat the Skoda SS - was very enjoyable.

Unfortunately this clashes with the Silverstone Classics weekend and since number one son has bought his dad tickets to that we'll be there instead. Have a good one.

Just to correct myself - I made a typo, it is 2 sessions with 30 in each!

I'm guessing it's the first two sessions of the day as the average show goer doesn't want to get out of bed.

Little do they realise some PHers will get up early on a Sunday for free ice cream let alone track sessions biggrin

Ross according to the Fast Car Festival website I found ( http://www.thefastcarfestival.co.uk/track-time), yes 1 passenger per car and the usual requirements about driving licence applies (& strangely they'll want both sections of your licence apparently).

Given the number of people who might be watching the track sessions, I think removing/obscuring the number plates might be a sensible choice.

^ that's why I thought I'd mention it as I had the opposite recently & they only wanted the photo card section. Here's the excerpt

"Please note: You will also need a valid entry ticket for the show and to bring the paper section which accompanies your driving licence. This can be downloaded from the DVLA website and brought with you. No refunds will be given if you do not provide the correct documentation."
