Anyone doing the London Ride100 next week?

I am hoping that i can give it a good go this year, having done a few 100m this year i should be able to pace it out.

Not even remotely. A combination of illness, injury and laziness has meant I've not been out anywhere near as much as I should have. However I've done it twice before so know what to expect plus I did a very slow paced 100 a few weeks ago so I'm sure I can get around. Just will be walking up the hills and not breaking any records!

Nope, but I'm a determined F&@%er and I'll make it to the end. Training has been thwarted by the fact that I was knocked off my Brompton a few days ago and I'm still not walking properly, so it will be pot luck if I'm in a state to peddle by the 31st.

You're all ready. You know people that have barely cycled do this ride?

If you feel like you're borderline able to finish it, then sit in a group of other riders, you'll save a huge amount of energy.

My plan is to sit in a group of riders, do a bit on the front and get round in sub 4.5hrs. Having done a few proper chaingangs recently where I shameless hid at the bad its remarkable looking at the power data comparing being at the front vs back. I expect I will get dropped by the lighter chaps on the climbs, need to try not to blow up.

Still deciding on Edco wheels or not!

I should complete the ride with no issues, but I wanted to be able to complete it within 6 hours start to finish, don't think I'm quite where I need to be to be able to do that.

First I've heard of this sportive! My first thought was "I bet there isn't much elevation change??". Being a native of North Wales where cycling is either uphill or uphill! biggrin

Has anyone seen an official gpx or strava route for it yet?

As for being ready... not done as much training as I'd hoped but still ready!

It's an easy route. approx 4500 ft climbing according to my garmin last year...
Did 100 miles at 18.8mph yesterday, so will be hopeful of 22mph+...managed 21.5mph last year.

my top tip - blast the fist 10 miles through the city - the noise from carbon rims at 30mph+ in the underpasses is something to behold!

Sounds about right!

Having not been able to train for a couple of weeks I'm debating whether I need to do a 'really long ride' this Saturday (I.e. 6 hours plus) and risk still being knackered next week or whether I should take a bit easier this weekend but therefore will not have achieved more than 4 hours on the bike in the recent past...?

Any advice?

I did London to Paris a couple of years ago and from memory day 1 was 90+ miles, so I'm not unduly concerned about the distance and should make it to the finish, but I'm not expecting to break any records 6.5 - 7 hours will be fine.

I'm riding for Prostate cancer and given that my dad is bravely dealing with this illness, motivation to finish won't be a problem, however long it takes!

My tip is to keep eating. I have something small every 20 minutes or so, you're hungry or feel you're energy levels drop it's too late. Prevention is better than cure, it's the only way I can get around!

Good luck to everyone taking part, I hope you have a great time.

As someone who lives along the route I've got to say it think it's a good idea and have no problem with the roads being shut for a day, what does cause issues though is the huge influx of people preparing months in advance, bringing traffic to a standstill, most cyclists I've encountered training are courteous and ride in groups but still in single file, however recently there seems to be huge pelatons going out every weekend acting like its a closed course with complete disregard for anyone else that uses the roads(other cyclists included sometimes!!).
Doubt it's anyone on here though but if it is, spare a thought for the rest of us!!.

Yeah another one here looking forward to my first RLS100 (in fact first cycling event full stop) next week.

Bought my first road bike 3mths ago and have been hitting the three main climbs on the course - Newlands Corner, Leith Hill, Box Hill - fairly regularly at weekends.

None of them are particularly challenging in the scheme of things and you can just steadily spin up there in a low gear without standing if required. The rest of the course is pretty flat with the odd kicker!

Thought the training was going ok but had a few back and knee issues which tend to flare up 2-3hrs into a ride, so will just be happy to get around 100miles in a respectable time without any heroics. Not been riding with more than one other person so will be interested to see if being in a big group helps or hinders.

Hope the sunshine holds another 10days!

Good luck. I did the Iron Mountain 100 last Saturday in the hills around Abergavenny amd whilst it wasn't too demanding I skipped the first fòd station which came at 33 miles but then must have missed the second one somehow so getting to the third at 79 miles was a nightmare. I wasn't the only one to miss the second so I have my doubts as to whether the "3rd" one was actually it.
Btw Matt, I've added to the Evo 2 we spoke about in le Mans 2 yrs ago with this.

From experience, could not agree more here! Did Tour de Yorkshire a few months back: didn't eat enough and felt absolutely destroyed about 40km in - sadly, the next food stop was about 85km so I had the most horrible couple of hours.

Thus, another tip: fill every nook and cranny with snacks, gel packs, whatever... that's what I'll be doing for Ride London! :-)

Not doing the 100 but thought I'd batter round the 46 to catch a bit of the closed roads vibe. The idea was to try and get round in under 2½ hours which will mean an average of about 19 mph, but it's flatter even than the 100 so I'm reasonably confident after feeling good on the Dynamo last weekend.

Good luck to all those doing the 100!
