International law AFAIK. Also his accounts will be frozen to stop him paying, assuming that the authorities can find them

He'll probably call in a favour from his mate Putin - I'm sure it won't take long for the FIS/GRU based in Brazil to find out where she is.....

And a promise to kidnap her every year for the next 5 years, each one getting more expensive.

100%. I expect that Bernie will already have called Putin (who he knows from the Russian GP).

If I was the kidnappers I'd be sh 1tting bricks.

It won't be too long until the kidnappers are paying Bernie 20m to take his MIL back... Not just Putin, I suspect Bernie has a few friends who will assist him in this matter.

I agree. Bernie is very very rich, and very very well connected. He is also in his 80s, and so won't have much concern about pulling in some favours from less than pleasant people.

I love the fact that in the photo in the BBC article, the caption has to state that Mrs. Ecclestone is the one on the left.

Pay the expendables 10 mil and they will get her back

Better than paying them 28 mil

Bernie probably masterminded it. Wouldn't surprise me if the £28m somehow go straight back into his pocket, with the added bonus that he can offset the loss against his taxes.

Certainly true in Italy.

You will note that I am refraining from using the sort of vocabulary you seem to be happy with.

You are assuming payment into accounts. Plenty of other methods - diamonds, bearer bonds, etc. And you are assuming that the Brazilian govt gives a damn about tracking them down.

Just feeling sorry for his adopted daughter (or even his wife as it turns out to be!)

Young hanger-on bimbos used to be described as "cousins" once upon a time IIRC!

Still Brazil needs a headline to get the focus away from the Zika virus, unpaid police, etc. so probably bunged Bernie a few gazillions to set this up! After all, does he actually care about anything other than commercial rights issues?

The only good thing about him is that he is so much older than me, so I should get to see life after Bernie - and I just cannot wait!!!

Being reported that the 'mastermind' is his old helicopter pilot during the Brazil GPs up to 2014. If this proves to be correct I'm sure he'll be hoping for a long sentence laugh
