Hate being cocooned in those horrible mummy bags, want a rectangular shaped bag but want a lightweight one that I can still backpack with.

Have been looking at the Therm-a-Rest thermal blanket things which looked ideal until I saw the £ & read the reviews.

Appreciate there will be more to a rectangular bag so it will be bigger & heavier but there must be a compromise solution out these that doesn't cost the earth?

Don't know about lightweight but having got entirely fed up with sleeping bags I've just bought the wife and I one of these each for our next trip (this weekend): http://www.sunncamp.co.uk/products/show/521

Better be comfortable. Lightweight / compact they are not though but it all goes in the estate or roof box so no bother.

The 'blanket' is actually a poncho liner and is popular in certain branches of the US military, ive kinda seen that it might be a 'thing' in the future within camping circles but as an additional item to a steeping bag.

But anyway, this https://www.outdoorgear.co.uk/Vango-Revive-Single-... looks pretty good to me for what your after.

That looks interesting, struggling to find reviews on it though & not keen on spending £45-50 if it's not going to do what I want it to.

Ive been looking into this too, as im due a new bag and like the idea of a quilt as its a bit more versatile and I always get too warm. Ultralights use quilts.

http://www.backpackinglight.co.uk/category-56/XB10... bit expensive though

The Carinthia 'space' (plus a load of their other models):

http://www.carinthia.eu/bags/en/shop/Sleeping-Bag/...

is currently half price on

http://www.sportpursuit.com

It appealed to me as its not cocoon-like and can be unzipped and used as a 'duvet'

I realise it's still expensive.

With sleeping bags it's a very simple calculation. Less weight and/or more insulation = more money.

Since almost all the companies use the same materials and make their sleeping bags in the same way, it's about finding the compromise which you are most happy with.

A light bag will always cost a lot, unless it's a proper 'summer' bag.

Yep, wants me to, not doing it unless I want to buy. Found this though: http://www.carinthia.eu/bags/en/shop/Sleeping-Bag/

Which bag did you mean Tomw2000?

Sorry - it's the 'spacer' bag.

I know re the site wanting to make you sign up.
They send me one email day, early morning. Which I skim through on train to work. Nothing of interest - I just delete it.

So, i am usually all over not registering on site on sites that mandate.
But this case is an exception. I've saved £000s on there this year alone.

And yes, their returns process etc is all fine.

It's up to you. /shrug

I know you said you don't but I always liked mummy sleeping bags as found square ones end up with cold patches when you move, but as a person of larger persuasion i've never really got on with the way the normal size mummy bags restrict movement so made do with the square ones for a while. I bought one of these on the off chance that it would be ok as the price seemed pretty good and actually I really like it now. There is enough space to get arms in without restricting movement too much. Obviously it's only 2 season but with a duvet over the top I've slept comfortably in a tent in below freezing conditions. If you can get to a go outdoors they were pretty relaxed about me getting in one in the shop! Is it the shape you don't like or restriction of movement?

I've got a two season mountain equipment down mummy bag which is superb. The middle section is elasticated so you can sit up cross legged and stretch your legs out when sleeping, I don't get on with restrictive bags either. Couldn't tell if they still make them but might be worth a look.

So coincidentally I'm looking for my first sleeping bag at the moment as I'm playing in a folk festival near Bournemouth in a couple of weeks so will be camping for the first time in about 30yrs!!

Ideally I'm also looking for a more rectangular shaped bag but will the fact that I'm 6' 3" tall limit me to what's available?

Cost isn't really an issue for me and I'll be transporting in the car so neither is weight / compressed size...

So in summary I'm looking for a rectangular sleeping bag that won't be too hot for the British summer time (inside a tent) that is long enough for me to fit in to.

Apologies if this is semi-hijacking this thread ;-)
